How many channels are showing it?

NBC, CBS, ABC, and PBS are all pre-empting their programming to present the speech.

As usual the haters on this board get it wrong. Fox will not broadcast the address on their entertainment channels. Fox News will be broadcasting the address.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

Goth has it right. The actual FOX network didn't interrupt any of their prime time programming during the election run either. They are marketing their shows. There is no counter programming for the kids they are aiming for with Glee.

Why bother? Four other channels are showing. Need we disrupt ALL of TV land for it?

I have ALWAYS wished only one major network would carry it.
Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!

I think they should all have to take a speech to air.

Goth I believe the original poster got it right- unless Fox News now broadcasts So you Think You Can Dance and Glee. He said "Fox" and those are "Fox" shows. Could you tell me what he was wrong about?

I've never understood why, in the age of the news channels, the web and the regular news, why networks can't opt out of airing it. It's not like there's no other chance to see it, or I can read it in the paper the next day.
After a long day of work, I don't shouldn't have to come home to an unavoidable two-hour press conference for the evening's entertainment.

Clearly they CAN opt out of it. Most choose not to. It's not like viewing it is cumpolsory.

Of course it's not compulsory to watch, but if it's on all the major stations, what am I supposed to do then? Read? Learn a craft? Talk to someone?

I know you're mostly kidding, but it's the first week of September. What's being preempted? Reruns and reality shows?

There used to be a feeling that everyone should be watching the president speak as it was, you know, important.

Well to be honest, Obama has watered down the significance of presidential addresses by having them so often.
And as someone else pointed out, getting news is a more multi-facted event these days. I watch it on the internet for example.
But Fox is still clearly telegraphing its bias by refusing to take part in the broadcast.
Of course, that should surprise exactly no one. It's not a secret that they're conservative and anti-Obama.

I don't know. Still they might as well show it since So You Think... & Glee will be up against the president in their premieres.

Why? They will have the entire viewing audience all to themselves (at least those who aren't watching the preisdent) for the premiere of its much hyped show. It's a stroke a good luck for them.

One more time for the slow people on this board.
Fox is broken into two segments: Fox Entertainment and Fox News. Fox News will be broadcasting the address, Fox Entertainment is going on with regularly scheduled programs. Fox is not refusing to broadcast it, they are just placing it on channels that carry news rather than entertainment.
And Fox Entertainment is not the only one going with regularly scheduled programming. You don't see Oxygen or Lifetime or TVLand changing their programming.

But I do thank you for clarifying.

Or maybe you just read people you agree with no matter how wrong their posts may be (this entire thread is a perfect example).
