lepetit I agree with you....single sex public and single sex Catholic are vastly different, and I'm not sure why Catholic schools were even brought up (just because Britney dressed as a skanky Catholic schoolgirl doesnt have any bearing on reality people)

lil' cheese--i'm sorry if i come off as insensitive but some of my left-leaning progressive brothers and sisters must put down their egalitarian crack pipes and give the free market a chance.
since neither party has stepped up and tossed out the idea of giving a tax rebate to homeowners who are childless and senior citizens with adult children to offset the local taxes they shell out, these agrieved souls have every right to demand an attractive ROI, in terms of quality of life and decent standardized test scores on the part of students.
news flash: the city of vallego, ca is broke for all intents and purposes. falling housing prices + subprime lending shrunk the tax base to nothing. the was forced to turn over operation of the public school system to the state which is facing a massive deficit. guess who the governator is going send the bill to?

I don't blame the teachers (unions another story)
Too many (teachers) have been my lifelong heroes.
FUNDING of public education has to be revisited. If not, it along with other public services at the local level will bankrupt more and more municipalities.
Don't expect any feasible solutions to come out of Washington, DC either. Like politics, solutions tend to be local in nature as well.

And unless you've done or read any research on Catholic schools........you dont know what youre talkin about!
And unless you know my friends and family, you don't know what you're talking about when you say I don't know what I'm talking about. Know what I'm talking about?

"and the poor areas which have no tax base get nothing."
That wasn't the case when I taught. I was in what was considered the worst school system in the country (located in NJ). I taught there for 25 years. Because it was impoverished, ghetto, lowest scores in the country, we qualified as the most needy of government funds and we received them. There was no lack of materials, teaching aids, computers, other machines, specialized teachers, and whatever was necessary.
Anyway, back to the topic. I'd be interested to know the outcome of a study to determine whether single sex schools are beneficial to learning or not.
