GOP Platform Rejects Civil Unions

In a move that surprises no one but instead confirms everything we thought about the GOP, the party has decided not to include support for civil unions as part of its platform after it was proposed by a Rhode Island delegate.

Yeah, civil unions are "counterfeit marriage" said a Romney advisor. I'll take my 26 year relationship that became civil unioned the day it was legal over the counterfeit marriages of so many straight people who marry, divorce, marry, cheat, divorce to their hearts' content.

I mean, they are counterfeit marriages, which is why only actual marriage is the real answer for all.

So, will this put to bed the lie that conservatives are just stuck on the word "marriage" and that it's just about that WORD? Clearly, it's really about just sh+tting on gay people any way they can.

The ACLU has called RI's civil unions "a bust" and "a fiasco". Many RI gays, myself included, are not interested in being 2nd class citizens. RI gays say, thanks, but no thanks.

Thanks, but the people who should hear it never do.

It's much like people who claim to not be anti-gay, but just think that marriage is for family and child-rearing and gays simply can't reproduce on their own. But they have no qualms about letting infertile heteros enter into the union that's all about family and child-rearing.

There's absolutely no argument against same-sex marriage that's not religiously based, and until enough people reject that, statements of logic will continue to land on deaf ears.
