Hot. Derivative, of course, but I love it.

I liked it, thought it was visually really intriguing.

It was classic Gaga to go in the complete and utter opposite direction from what we expected. 'Alejandro, a summery song about boys in Mexico? No, no, no. Communist undertones in a wintery Russia, that's what we'll do.' Definitely keeps us on our toes. (Rather like those heel-less platforms she wears in the clip)

No clue what was going on half the time, but it's nice to have a music video engage your brain for a change and require you to interoperate it. Something Gaga does well in my book.

I've seen that it's underlying theme is her devotion/intrigue/envy of her gay friends and their relationships, and how she longs to find the same with a straight man. I'm guessing the use of religion and military is because they're two places where being gay is still a huge issue?

There was no need for it being that long though, a few parts didn't really add anything to it...so reducing it to 5 minutes (which will be done with the TV edit, anyway) would have been a better idea. Shorter, and sweeter.

Obviously there's strong Madonna under/overtones throughout, but I get the impression that's intentional (and in typical Klein style) and - unlike with Christina's video - Gaga has the ability to make things her own.

Definitely better than Telephone, in my opinion.

I adore Gaga and the song, but the video is stark, lumbering, too long and didn't really do it for me. Of course, it's more interesting than anything else out there.

I really do wish some pop star could invent a way to be provocative, without being so blantantly sexual-that would be a revelation in my book.

I always liked how Gaga was more groteque sexy than explicitly sexual, but here she goes clearly for the explicitly sexual, almost clothed porn which is such a contrived snooze. The "gangbangy" (thanks Gina Gershon) end is kinda meh.

Nothing new or noteworthy IMO.

I like it...love her.

I also love how she's rockin' the "Tootie/Saleisha" do at around 7:35!

It's kind of funny b/c the video isn't offensive, so much as boring. I credit that to MADONNA, who broke down the walls of censorship, religion, and sexual taboo 20 years ago. That's why I feel that someone needs to shatter some new taboos-sex and religion is such a snoozefest.

Alejandro was a visually pleasing video that aimed high and missed. I found it to be extremely confusing, even after several viewings. Weirdly enough, I still loved it.

Wait, there's classic Gaga already? I would have preferred the summery song about boys in Mexico video.

Katy Perry thinks it is blasphemous? Now I kinda like it more even though it is hardly a focal point of the video in the way "Like A Prayer" was with religious imagery.

What exactly did that video have to do with the song itself? I'm not saying I didn't like it, but what is it with GaGa doing videos that have no correlation to the songs? Also, I don't ever want to hear from a GaGa fan that everyone copies but her because that video SCREAMED Madonna (including some of the "Vogue" dance at the end).

"I don't ever want to hear that everyone copies but her because that video SCREAMED Madonna."

It was directed by Steven Klein, who worked with Madonna for years. I don't think she copies anyone. I think there is a vast difference between 'copying' and inspiration.

She does some of the "Vogue" dance at the end wearing a bra with something patruding (ala the cone bra). Yeah, she copied. Not the whole video, but there are moments. And I am totally cool with that, but I just don't ever want to hear the crap GaGa fans were spewing about other artists when it's on full display here.

I totally get your hostility towards some Gaga fans, they really were total hypocritical morons towards Christina. I loathe many of their attitudes, but it's not a majority.

The bra thing isn't 'copying' Madonna, she's clearly taking inspiration and playing homage to something iconic, but bringing it forward and developing it further. It became the firework bra and pants set, and now it's progressed into a machine gun nipple number.

Katy Perry, interestingly, in her soon-to-be-released video wears a cupcake bra that shoots out cream from the nipples. That in turn is a clear 'homage' to Gaga.

I think Alejandro had very clear nods towards Madonna, but it wasn't imitating her. You can see the connection, but thats not all you see. They are friendly, and I think Madonna is fully aware that Gaga is likely to become the heir to her throne seeing as Britney is, well, being Britney, and Christina does her own thing.

I really hope that seeing Gaga resemble her earlier self, it spurs Madonna back into being more creative. She's the Queen for a reason, but she needs to remind the younger generation why she owns the throne...because the current generic R&B/dance stuff is a bit blah and Gaga can easily outshine that with all her crazyness.

Like I said, I am cool with it and actually kinda liked the video itself (even though I am not a fan of the song). I was just putting my 2 cents worth in there :)

Katy Perry is such an unequivocal moron. Yeah, blasphemy is cheap, but exploiting homosexuality with faux lesbianism for the male gaze is pure class. God doesn't care about your sins as long as their foundations are in heteronormative society.

The video was okay.

Why at the moment when people like Gaga and Christina rip of a Madonna video etc is it just seen as paying homage?

I think the difference is Lady Gaga is very much intentionally referencing the Madonna video whereas someone like Christina Aguilera is simply trying to re-invent herself by stealing from what she sees works today and failing miserably, I mean even Britney Spears had a better album.
Sorry but I think Katy Perry is as trashy as they come, I almost feel like I have herpes just from watching her performances, she's just so disgusting and trashy. She also has absolutely no talent. Who care what she thinks? I really cannot stand her. I saw a clip of her performance at the MTV Awards and she was sooo bad. I also saw her live at the Grammys and her live voice was one of the worst I've heard, sorry but Lady Gaga at least can call herself a singer!
I thought the video worked. Sorry but sex is still taboo, especially in today's family-oriented, hugely conservative society (even though people don't realize how conservative, especially sexually conservative, the media and the nation is). Add me to the camp who thinks this woman is actually an artist trying to do something with her music and with her fame. Loved the video, hate that it doesn't have absolutely anything to do with the song, but can't express how much I like her and respect her as an artist.
