I can't believe Monty never won. I was sure he did and went over to imdb to check, but NYC4Life is right.

About that, and the fact that Rock Hudson was most definitely an actor. Good looks and acting ability aren't always mutually exclusive.

I understand that it is believed that no actor has won an Oscar while being openly gay. Obviously there are gay actors who have won--some of whom were openly gay after the fact. And there have been openly gay actors nominated.

There certainly hasn't been an openly gay actor who has won for playing a gay character. And, I can't recall if any openly gay actors have even been nomainted for playing a gay character.

I think it has to do with appeal. If a woman knows that James Bond is played by a queer, the fantasy is gone.

Same thing with men and lesbians, although, it's probably less. A guy doesn't want to see a lesbian in a sexy, kick ass role (Tomb Raider, for instance). It ruins that fantasy (unless another female is involved...)

An excellent actor no one has mentioned is Mr. Tab Hunter.

He always had so much depth on screen, especially in The "City Under The Sea" and "Won Ton Ton, The Dog Who Saved Hollywood".

He made being a dumb blonde actually look easy!

My favorite regular actor name that sounds like a porn actor name is Rider Strong, who was on TV in Boy Meets Worlds and did the tour of The graduate.

Joan had affairs with men and women, though LOTS more men...as for a Marilyn affair, I read that they might have had one night, but Joan had a bit of a feud with Marilyn in the press so I'm not really sure what happened there.

Melissa Etheridge thanked her wife in her acceptance the other month. That film could not have been more liberal, could it? It's good though, don't get me wrong.

RobbieJ, you posted a bit of a bio of John Gielgud by Sheridan Morley, who I remember as a long time critic with the English papers. is it true that he's dead? I heard him referred to recently as 'the late Sheridan Morley' and never heard anything about it.
Actually, just checked wikipedia, and it turns out he is dead. Died in February, aged 65. I didn't even know.

Wow, in just reading about Agnes on IMDB I read that Dick Sargent who was on "Bewitched" with Agnes publicly came out shortly before he died. He wasn't an Oscar nominee, I just found it interesting.
