Sad to say but it seems like every day there is some new guy being accused of sexual assault.  Really, can anybody out there be a gentleman anymore ?

Come on now--This reads a load of bull-****e.

Even if some of those details are true in this instance the 'model' was in no way an innocent.

I feel it abhorrant that this trouble maker waits till now to get his 10seconds of 'fame' to add this highly respected actor[who I have no interest in professionally] to the pool of malicious gossip.

PS. Must tell the world now about the famous person from West Side Story that dragged me into the loo whilst 30.000feet in the air[NO my FEET weren't in the air--it was far too cramped in there]. My life was ruined but I told all my friends about it when ever I could! Yes, I am making a joke of the situation and yes I do understand that every situation is different.

I have no personal knowledge of the events in question.

HOWever, I was in Science Fiction Fandom for a number of years  and Mr Takei was a frequent attendee as a Guest of Honor. ( why not? the Moneys OK and you can make a mint for a couple of hours selling autographs and pictures w fans)  I have never heard of him behaving this way w any of his  frequently young fans and trust me, Rock Stars are how these people are treated. He'd get offers.

Fandom puts the Theater to shame as a moist incestuous little swamp of gossip and feuds. If this behavior was present at Con's It would be know and commented on. 

So... I'm thinking "not so much".

sick of this crap.

Almost all Americans are guilty of mendacity when it comes to sexual assault allegations.
If they are against the "bad people," moguls who skeeve us out, or Republicans we are up in arms.
If they are against George Takei or Bill Clinton, or even Kevin Spacey (at least until people started to realize just how many allegations there are against Kevin Spacey), then so many of us fall back on the same prejudices against he complainants that the most retrogressive defenders of accused sex criminals wear on their sleeves.
Takei's accuser is "not an innocent?"  Seriously?  That sounds like an Eisenhower era talking point against a woman charging s man with a sex crime.
Even mainstream women's rights crusaders, many of whom always talk about how every woman should be believed, turned their backs on Juanita Broaddrick and Paula Jones.
Many said they were politically motivated or put up to their accusations.  Which in Broaddrick's case made no sense as she was a Clinton supporter.
But how is that theory any different than those now saying that Roy Moore's accusers are politicallly motivated?

I am not saying Takei is guilty.  I am not saying that sex crime complaints can't be fabricated or politically or otherwise dubiously motivated, just like any other kind of criminal complaint can be suspect. 

I don't jump to conclusions that the accuser in a sex crime allegation is always telling the truth.  Instead, I acknowledge that I don't know.  And treat both the accuser and the accused with the respect that comes from my not knowing what happened because I wasn't there.  I'm not the jury.  If I was on the jury I'd keep an open mind.  And I would reach a verdict consistent with the evidence irrespective of my personal or political feelings about the accused.

But so many Americans love to stand on principle until that principle conflicts with their tribalism or preferences or precious affinities for the accused.
That isn't justice.  It's hypocrisy.

That in a nutshell is why I don't launch threads about any alleged sexual assault. I'm trying to do my part to rein in the mendacity of my own tribe.
