His first in 20 years. It's perfect for when you're changing out of your normal clothes into your superhero outfit.

Hmmm. It's pretty much exactly what I thought a new Giorgio Moroder song would sound like. Nothing remotely new, but, hey, I guess if your sound was amazing the first time around, why reinvent it?
Now, I want a Cerrone revival..

I love it--but it's not really his first. Last year he did a tune for Google Chrome (I have no idea why) that was pretty good, a bit like an update of The Chase.

So, as I'm sure we all know, Giorgio Moroder has a new album due out this year. His first proper album in 30+ years. Lots of big vocalists/collaborators on the album, including Kentucky Fried Chicken's own Britney Spears, kooky songwriter and sometimes singer Sia, and something called Charli XCX, which I believe is the newest social photo sharing app that all the tweens are into.
But, of course, the collaboration we're all most excited about is "Right Here, Right Now", the new Moroder song featuring Australian pop goddess Kylie Minogue. Oh, and, look: the song "leaked" today. And it's bloody good, too. Kylie sounds marvelous. I sure Madge wishes she could sound this at ease and ethereal. Mordoder's production is hardly revolutionary - one wouldn't expect so from a 74 year old - but it feels fresh and unforced and perfectly compliments Kylie's vocals.
We now turn to Eric, our Canadian correspondent, for more on this story. Eric, can we expect a video? Is this an official single or just a random leak?

Makes me wanna throw on a silver wig, do a line of coke, and sweep out onto the floor with Bianca and Liza!
Kylie's vocals sound better here than on anything in Kiss Me Once.

I love it!
It's an official single and she filmed a video a few weeks back...
(And since you mentioned Cerrone way back in this thread, apparently he's planning a revival as well.)

This interview has a few mildly interesting tidbits, if y'all haven't seen it already.

Well, clearly, there wasn't much of a budget for this video, but Kylie looks fantastic. I guess 74's the new 24 and 46's the new... 36?

Posted: 2/2/15 at 7:48pmI love that sound. Takes me right back to Studio, drugs, disco, the Pines. Best times of my life. I'm glad his stuff still sounds the same.

Posted: 2/2/15 at 9:27pmJane - sounds like you had a great time back then! Although, I wouldn't say the song sounds particularly "Moroder'ish". It wouldn't have been out of place on a regular Kylie album, but their styles definitely compliment each other.

oy, then who am I thinking of? I thought it was Moroder. I do know one thing, though - Iove Cerrone!

Posted: 2/2/15 at 10:16pmHorse, I'm remembering the music of Gorgio Moroder that was on Donna Summer's recording of Love to Love You Baby. I don't relate to his most recent work, though.

Posted: 2/3/15 at 2:09amSorry, I wasn't being terribly clear. There are definitely parallels to his work with Summers and others - I just didn't think it had that signature futuristic Moroder sound. The one most associated with him. And, I may have said this before, I think that's actually very smart of him. If he were simply update that "I Feel Love", "From Here to Eternity", "The Chase" sound, it would probably pale in comparison to the originals. Is this new work as bold and original as his earlier stuff. No, of course not, but I still think it sounds sensational and, as you said, recalls that disco feel without being out and out pastiche. He's definitely still got it. And, hell yes to Cerrone. 'Supernature' is one of the best things to come out of that era.

Cerrone lost me even more than Moroder did, and earlier, in the 80s (OK, lost me when collecting his old albums as a teen :P ) but he had a terrific "comeback" of sorts with Hysteria, the album from 2002--Let's Make Love on the Dance Floor in particular was a return to style. He's been giving new interviews for (yet another) Greatest Hits collection and seems all too aware of what Moroder is doing and wanting to put something out again.
Anyway--I agree with you on the song. The use of the slightly funky guitar is what sets it apart for me from the usual Moroder sound--although, especially in the 80s and in his very early funkier disco he did use it more--and the slightly different sounding synth bass line is great. Cheap video, but it works, so I won't complain. Very excited for the album.

Posted: 2/3/15 at 10:07amHorse, you're right. This new song has no resemblance to what I remember as his old work.

I think the gurgling synth line is vintage late 70s Moroder (think Donna Summer's "Lucky" from the Bad Girls album, or "Dance Into My Life" from Once Upon a Time, both great album tracks)--as is the steady, slightly slower than the current usual, 128pmb four on the floor (I appreciated what he said about that in the interview.) But yeah the guitar work is very Nile Rodgers (he seems to be everywhere now, including doing a track with Cerrone, so I wonder if he is on the album.)

I defer to Eric on all these matters. Dude knows his ****. Moroder has apparently also contributed to Kylie's new EP due out this year which has been produced by Garibay, that wunderkind who produced last year's Sleepwalker EP.
And good for Cerrone sniffing around for some new work. I admit I only truly love a handful of his work over the years, but his good stuff is undeniable.

Posted: 3/19/15 at 1:19amMoroder is opening for Kylie's Ozzie leg of her tour, and comes in the middle to do the single for her. He looks like he's having fun--and Kylie sounds great in her brief Donna Summer homage at the end https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-9XW4e17No

Uh-oh, in perhaps more interesting Kylie news - she's leaving RocNation and also her record label...

She sounds so good on those impromptu Donna Summer vocals. More songs that play with her voice like that, please.
Re: RocNation split, not surprised at all. In fact, seemed inevitable. But she's still officially with her label - Palophone/Warner - right?

It seems she's done with Parlophone too.
As far as the split from Parlophone, a spokesman said "Kylie has fulfilled her contract with Parlophone. She has enjoyed and continues to enjoy a long and respectful relationship with the label."

Posted: 3/19/15 at 8:24pmHmmm... which could translate as a tough negotiation tactic? It would be interesting to see her go completely wild and sign with some indie dance label and just use Warner for distribution.
