Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova (New Album Streaming)#1

Posted: 8/18/09 at 11:22am

Hey guys,

I don't know if any of you are fans of Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, the stars of the movie "Once" and winners for Best Song "Falling Slowly" at the Oscars, but they have a new album coming out on October 27th.

It's called Strict Joy, and the songs that they've played live sound really really good. They just put out one of the songs for free download on Spinner, so I thought that I would share the link for anyone interested.

It's called "In These Arms" and it's a really beautiful song. Check it out!

EDIT:
The new album is streaming here in its entirety.

They've broken up, haven't they? It was shocking to learn of the age difference between the two - I thought they were both in their late 20s.

Yup, they broke up and are no longer dating, but still make music together.

I believe they'll be here touring next year. They're in the midst of doing and/or setting up some European dates the rest of this year and early next year.

Saw them at Radio City last year. Great show!
Just watched a podcast of them doing an in-studio interview/gig at some station in D.C. Can't remember the station offhand now. It was an NPR podcast.

I saw them as well at Radio City. That show was awesome! I was also fortunate enough to be able to see Glen at Joe's Pub back in April, which was also awesome and very intimate.

The NPR concert is great, I love how they were only supposed to do like three songs and would but playing around eight. They are true musicians, those two.

Like them a lot but still prefer Glen's work with The Frames.

I love them, and Once is one of my favorite movies of all time. (I cry at least three times every time I watch it.) That said, I'm not that excited by the song.

I agree scott68, about the song. It kind of bores me, which is sad because we all know what they are capable of.

I loved Once and think the two of them are talented and cute. But for most folk singers I listen to there comes a point where they hit a wall where everything sounds the same or they just become kind of a folkie stereotype with the earnest guitar playing and the "deep" lyrics. I think they just hit that wall for me.

Which is a shame, BettyBoy, because Glen Hansard's put out so much great music with The Frames. The Swell Season was a side project, and I think it should've stayed a side project.

I really like the song, but I also like The Swell Season more than The Frames. I do enjoy some Frames songs like Fitzcarraldo, Fake, Dissapointed, What Happens When The Heart Just Stops, Lay Me Down, Revelate, and People Get Ready (among others), but I really think that The Swell Season has a better sound.

You may like some of the other songs off of the album:
