The best Disney/Pixar movie yet, the best film of the year, and one of my favorite films that I have ever seen.
I can't rave enough about it. It's probably the best animated movie in the last ten years...gorgeous, incredibly touching, absolutely hilarious, and full of heart.
Go see it and then go see it again. I can't wait to go back to see it at least once more in theaters...a stunning, incredible movie. I seriously couldn't find a single flaw in the entire film...a true masterpiece.

better than wall-e?
I saw the preview for it when I saw Wolverine, and I thought it looked pretty good... thanks for the heads up!
Here's what a friend of mine said about it..
"saw Up--danger, dentures, dog drool, and a derigible. Delightful!"

I've heard great things. Pixar just can't screw up, can they? (Excluding "Cars.) Toy Story 3 will win the Oscar at this point.
My daughter went to a midnight showing last night and loved it.

lol! I hated Cars.
I saw it earlier this evening. Pixar has certainly done it again. An absolutely fantastic film and definitely a must see.
Which is odd, considering the preview is so boring.
So looking forward to it. (Cars was too long, but otherwise not a horrible film by any standard!)
Yes, better than WALL-E.
And I did see it in 3D...it was gorgeous but it doesn't really matter, 2D or 3D, this is a must-see movie. 3D is so expensive (I paid $12 for a matinee in 3D) so if you can deal, go see it in 3D. But if not, it's not the end of the world. Just see the movie, any way you can!
Good, I'm excited for this one!
I loved Cars! And I thought WALL-E was overrated...I'm beginning to think I'm missing something here!
Toy Story was and always will be my favorite, though.
I loved every Pixar movie except for Cars and Wall-E. I can't wait to see Up. I'm hoping to see it this weekend in 3D.

I'm sure the film is marvellous, but quit trashing WALL-E. I still think it should have been nominated for (and won) Best Picture that year (especially since I just saw the unbelievably overrated SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE...)
I honestly didn't think much of the trailer and I'm admittedly not a fan of the Pixar animation style (I miss good old-fashioned hand-drawings), but I will say that when they do a good job they do a good job, so now that I've read the reviews on this board and found this review online, I'm actually quite excited to see it and might catch it tomorrow.
According to this review from msn.com, the film does a beautiful work with the 3-D but he also says that the movie will look just as beautiful and be just as special without the 3-D animation. Basically, it's not just a gimmick.
I'm excited now! Haven't seen a good movie at the theatres since Oscar season passed.
Love this review by the way, the reviewer seemed to be genuinely enthralled by the whole thing:
There are so many important metaphors here, revolving around the aging man rising heavenward, carrying with him everything that remains of his days, that the movie nearly overwhelms you with its beauty. The strange imagery of this house, soaring above the clouds, is instantly, powerfully, right and unforgettable. As with "The Wizard of Oz," you see "Up" and can't imagine a world without it, even though none of this ever entered into your previous fantasy world.
But at Pixar, an ability to put existence -- human or otherwise -- into perspective has always gone hand-in-hand with an unbeatable sense of humor. Cue what's waiting for Carl and Russell in South America: a pack of dogs that are Pixar's most sublimely amusing creations yet. Through specially engineered collars, these dogs don't really talk, it's more like they think aloud. Dug, who looks like a squattened golden retriever, is the sweetest. Alpha, the Doberman pinscher who leads the pack, is the meanest, and, due to a technical error involving his sound box, also the funniest. I look forward to studying their every word at leisure in the coming years, when my own laughter isn't drowning out their next line.
Finally, a word must be said about Pixar's first foray into the rapidly growing trend of 3-D animation. The 3-D technology is subtle and expertly used by craftsmen and craftswomen who make it merely another tool in their artistic arsenal, rather than an opportunity to throw things at the audience (as in, say, the oafish "Monsters vs. Aliens"). That's smart thinking, given that kid-oriented movies have substantial second lives inside the world's living rooms, where 3-D glasses are not the norm. The added visual dimensionality of "Up" is a treat, but it's not essential. I suspect that won't be true of the first movie to convince me of the worth of 3-D, the visually brilliant "Coraline," which I'm not sure I could bear to see in its flattened form. "Up" is so fully realized that it can live large no matter the dimension.
UP: More Pixar Perfection
A poignantly moving study of the nature of loss, grief, and moving on. Absolutely beautiful.
I just came back from seeing it with my best friend. it was incredible!! we didn't see it in 3D (too expensive) but it was seriously perfect without it. We were laughing so hard during it. Dug and Kevin were hysterical. It's "up" there with Wall-e. so good!!!
and one of the best shorts in front of it too. so funny!!!
Loved the short too!
My favorite of all of the shorts so far.

UP has the same art and commerce tension as Wall-E and plays with it just as well. Its art is artful, its commerce, delightful. It's quite beautiful and deeply moving.
I'm not a big fan of movies in general (except when they show up on TCM), and I'm usually looking at my watch about half way through them. But in the last month I've seen Star Trek, Angels and Demons, and Up and I've loved them all. Either the movies are really getting better or I'm getting soft-headed in my old age!
I saw it last night. I laughed out loud, I quietly wept (it was a struggle to hold in those bawls), and I think it is definitely in my top 10 favorite movies!
The Disney/Pixar body of work is really incredible. I've enjoyed every single one of their films. Some more than others, but still, all enjoyable.
There is a fascinating, insightful article about the inner workings of Pixar in the latest issue of D23. It talks all about the company, their philosophy, and how they get the most out of their employees. It's a blend of the Disney and Apple styles of running a company. Very, very interesting.
