You absolutely can*NOT* go wrong with Rafaella's on 7th Ave. South, or Cucina Stagione on 7th Av/Bleeker. Both incredibly tasty Italian joints (very romantic ambiance, as well, particularly Raf's), and very affordable.
very good pub grub at Elephant and Castle on Greenwich, off 6th Ave...
Cucina Staglione- Excellent calamari, salmon, Chicken Parm.
Comes with the best homemade sauce on pasta.
11.00 Pre Theater dinner m-f 4-7.
Sushi Samba
Blue Water Grill
City Crab
Chango Saki Sangria
The bartender used to be in the original Tony and Tina's Wedding. They also have wine for 2.50 a glass. It is a great place on a budget. They love me there.

Attagirl. I can't even walk *by* the place without falling in for a plate of calamari...
Well, Thesp--you just got recommendations from a gourmet, a gourmand and a restuarant reviewer. You can't go wrong now!
I must also throw in a post-recommendation snap for Agave...they have absolutely fantastic drinks, a chimichurri steak to shoot y'mama for, and it's really not all that pricy. (And there's the added bonus of being stumbling distance from Marie's and the Duplex in case you feel a song coming on...or just wanna fall into Rafaella's for dessert
)
Yama sushi if that floats your boat.
City Crab has the best shrimp in the village.
'ino down along Bedford is great for really tasty paninis and an awesome wine bar.
Corner Bistro where Bleecker, 8th and West 4th (I think) all converge makes a darn good burger.
The Sazarac House on Charles Street and Hudson has great takes on Cajun cuisine
In the East Village (near Katz's deli where you can get the best pastrami sandwich) is Lil Frankies (2nd avenue and 2nd Street) a very hip, funky place for excellent pizza and Italian food and a great wine selection. It's not too expensive but it's not too cheap either. Freshest ingredients.
