Hello citibank!
Another one bites the dust

It didn't really "fail," they're quick to point out.
It just got swallowed up a little.
EDIT: I'm a little nervous that our country has three "super banks" now, and that's about it. JP Morgan Chase Fawcett-Majors Stearns, Bank of Amerrill Lynch, and Citifateverythingelse.
And one sidekick: Wells Fargohavn'tboughtanybody

I'm glad they kept their maiden name. I doubt they will this time.

Posted: 9/29/08 at 9:53amI hate Citibank. Not exactly sure why, but the very name puts me in a bad mood. They must have been mean to mean when I was very young, or in a previous life, or something.

I was with Citibank when I lived in NYC back in the '80s. They were horrible. Their customer service was the worst I've ever experienced, before or since.
I moved out to L.A. and was with medium-sized bank that got swallowed up by Wells Fargo within the first year. I've been with Wells ever since. They're big, but they're friendly. At least they've done right by me, over the years. I've never had problems, and they have a million branches out here all up and down the west coast.

Basically, you shouldn't be affected at all, or so they say on other sites.

Posted: 9/29/08 at 10:30amNothing will change cuba in terms of you day to day banking, just the corporate culture may differ. I don't know how citibank's customer service is. Wachovia stressed that facet.

I was always VERY happy with Wachovia. They were always pleasant to deal with.
I've never liked Citibank. I think I'll take my banking to Bank of America now.

Posted: 9/29/08 at 10:47amIt's a shame because I've always liked Wachovia's customer service. It's why I've stayed with them. I've had bad experiences with Citibank so now I may have to switch.

Posted: 9/29/08 at 10:49amAgreed. Wachovia's customer service was the best!

Dang. I had a citibank account for about 6 months in the late 80s, didn't like them and swore I would never use them again. I have managed to do that until now - Wachovia handles my student loan. Thankfully I only have a few months left on it.
They are the reason I try to bank only at credit unions.

Posted: 9/29/08 at 11:23amDidn't Wachovia swallow up another bank last week?

#16re: Goodbye Wachovia
Posted: 9/29/08 at 11:38amYeah, I was with Wachovia when I lived in NC. What a sh*tty bank.

I've been wanting to switch from Wachovia for some time now. I don't think they're good at all. (I got there through buy-out after buy-out after buy-out. It was NOT a "choice."
CP, why not wait to see what CitiBank brings before changing banks? In the meantime, do some homework. Compare banks, services, fees and so forth. You may actually find a better arrangement elsewhere. I'm certain that I can!

I was with First Union and then Wachovia for years, and I never had any problems.....
The only reason I switched banks is because we don't have Wachovia here.

Posted: 9/29/08 at 1:23pmI have accounts at Wachovia and Commerce. I love Commerce. The folks are nice and the hours are fantastic! Who else is open on Sundays and bank holidays?

I also heart my credit union.
I have been with them for over 20 years.
#23re: Goodbye Wachovia
Posted: 9/29/08 at 2:05pmI had Prudential, then Wachovia bought them. Now I have National City (a big Midwest chain), which is also on the list to (possibly) go under. Plus I have 2 WaMu credit cards (which I think are still usable?). This is crazy.
