'Greenleaf' on OWN

Has anyone here had the opportunity to watch this show? I caught it 5 episodes in and was immediately hooked. It was created by Craig White (Dirty Sexy Money, Six Feet Under, Lost) and stars the multi-talented Merle Dandridge, who I had the opportunity to see on Broadway in "Aida", "Rent" and "Jesus Christ Superstar", Keith David, Lynn Whitfield, Lammar Rucker and Benjamin Patterson. Oprah has a recurring role as Lynn Whitfield's "black sheep" sister Mavis.

It is, in my opinion, one of the best written and acted shows on television right now. It's not at all over-the-top and campy like OWN's other scripted series - that's probably because Tyler Perry has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Regina King directed last night's episode.

The season finale airs next Wednesday at 10 pm on OWN.

It is very well cast! Keith David - - - and especially Lynn Whitfield as Bishop and Lady Mae are truly magnificent. The supporting cast is equally impressive. Standouts for me are Lammon Rucker as brother Jacob, Kim Hawthorne as his wife Kerissa, Gregory Alan Williams as uncle Mac, Benjamin Patterson as Noah....and in the center of it all Merle Dandridge as Grace, she is so good from her very first scene in the series. I instantly fell in love with her.

They've tackled some pretty heavy issues with a lot of grace and without the over top melodramatics of the other OWN scripted series. If this were in the hands of Mr. Tyler Perry it could have easily dissolved into camp soap hokum. Yes, the show can be seen as a soap opera - - - but only on the surface. I liken it to a novel for television because the writing, direction and acting are so top notch.

I can't wait for the finale next week.

leave whitfield's face alone...nah it's subtle..now if she get to courtney cox or even jo van ark proportions then u can talk ish....lol

I agree. Just finished watching it for the third time - a lot going on and a lot to take in...and Kevin's confession to Charity - - - that scene just broke my heart into a million pieces.
