Liz- Nick was fired because they believed he was "too dark" as the character Lawrence. So they fired him. I think they type-casted him because of his take on Thenardier.
My friend saw Tom go on. and she said that he was great! (she fell in love with him. hehe.)
also, what is really cool, is that Tom lives in my home town and his son was in my middle school (but years behind me) and in 8th grade, the kids go see a broadway show for their middle school graduation. and one of the options was DRS. and when Tom's son and his friends saw the show, Tom was Lawrence. I believe that Tom asked John L. if he could go on (it was a matinee) and John said sure (would be a nice break from him). So, that was cool.
