What a morning. Gerry's coming, Gerry's not coming, there's still a chance Gerry might be coming...
I have a headache.
But boy, did my roommates enjoy seeing me freak out.
At least I can rely on the amazing Rachel York concert last night to get me through this difficult time.
Also met LaChanze last night, who was soo nice. We talked about Once On This Island, hehe. Except she told me I looked 16, and swore to me that's a good thing. Hrmph. Well, I did make her feel really old by saying I was 5 when it came out, so I guess we're even...
Hmmm - shows us what Andree would have looked like in a beret!
Which reminds me - I had one of those great 'Broadway-style' dreams a couple of weeks ago. There's been a lot of talk about the revival of South Pacific. In my dream it was happening with Kelli O'Hara as Nelly Forbush, Harry Conick, Jr. as Lt. Joe Cable, and GREG JBARA as Emile DeBeque.
(They'd have to tie me down to keep me from seeing THAT one!)
wow! I was wondering if they were able to find the thread at all. even with a few pages missing.
Barb- love the pic and video. so funny! and he got to sing a little! sweet!
Mamie- although I've heard of the show (and probably heard a few songs) I'm not sure of who's who. is Emile a good part for Greg? even so, i would love to see him again in another show.
It's the story of a young nurse assigned to a Navy base on a Pacific island during WWII. Besides the natives, the islands are inhabited by the French planters who live on large plantations. Emile is one of the French planters. He's a middle aged widower with 2 young children. Their mother (his late wife) was a native. Nelly Forbush is the young nurse who falls in love with him. Joe is a Navy Lieutenant who is assigned to a dangerous mission with Emile as his guide.
The basic story is rather dated but the music is so beautiful that it's dug out and dusted off every now and then. (I LOVE the music.)
Joe Cassidy!!!

Mamie: I love your new avatar. so cute!
LOL. It's Little Red Riding Kitty. (For the Halloween season). Now that I look at it - I think she's dressed just fine for Christmas too!

We're going to a benefit concert tonight (celebrating Schwartz and Menken,) in which Greg is appearing.
Oh - I'm so jealous! I wish someone would record this show - it really sounds fantastic!
Damn! Jealous! Tell Greg Hi from all of us at the GFU!

Greg was just wonderful (overall, the whole show was.) He has such a warm and gentle stage presence!
What I really thought after he did his number (a song from the Disney animated movie HOME ON THE RANGE) is that he could EASILY record a country album. His voice has the depth, and again 'warmth', to really work in that genre. I wonder if he's ever considered it?
Sometimes I think that he's surprised when people comment on just what a wonderful singer he is. I told him once that I was working on my own, homemade "Greg Jbara DVD". I told him that I loved listening to his voice and asked him if there were any 'hidden' recordings out there that I could add to it. He seemed genuinely amazed that anyone would want to do something like that!
I agree - his voice is warm and full and would easily fit that genre. All it would take is someone who wants to record it!

Thanks for the report DG! I would love to have been there to hear Greg sing "Will the Sun Ever Shine Again."
I don't know if Greg's ever considered recording country songs, but I do know that as far as his tastes in music go, he happens to be a big fan of k.d. lang.
Big hi to everyone! ... Mamie ... I like your avatars! :)

Both Little Red Riding Kitty and I thank you!
As long as we're on the subject - I would really love it if he'd record a few of those gorgeous old standards. Cyndi Lauper did it and Rod Stewart did it and neither of them sing half as well as Greg.
got to agree. I think Greg should come out with an album. With country and showtune songs on it. and if he writes, maybe one or two of his own.
it's something to think about suggesting to him.
I completely forgot to ask: is Greg and his family ok after all those fires in California? It just dawned on me now.

hi all!!!
I've been quite busy nowadays: work...work...work! But I can hardly wait X-mas when I am relaxing with my friends finally.
how is everyone???
Hello again Annie! Not much activity over here lately. We need to get Greg back on the East coast - maybe in a short run that won't take him from home for too long.
I'VE GOT IT! The musical "White Christmas" is proving to be a huge hit wherever it's produced. BWW's own Erika Amato is starring in it in California right now and it's such a big hit that the entire run is sold out. SOOOOOOO - since it's never been performed in NY before, supposed we start a campaign to get Greg and Erika in it for next Christmas - this time in NY! (or if we can't wait that long, maybe "Easter Parade"? LOL)
