Another franchise being resurrected. It could be good if they get Joe Dante back...it's not like he's been up to much lately.
Gremlins in 3D
This should not even be discussed without Dante's involvement.I hope and pray they bring Phoebe Cates out of retirement to reprise her role. She should be the one fighting Gremlins this time around and not Zach Galligan.I also hope they do not CGI The Gremlins. They should use puppets like they did with the other 2.Be sure to watch the British commercial posted in the story.Notice how they move, just like the other films. This could be really cool,if done right. Leave it to Hollywood to screw this up.
"This should not even be discussed without Dante's involvement"
Just like ELM STREET shoudn't have been discussed without Englund and so on and so on. It'll be an orgy of CGI "reimagining" like everything else nowadays because nobody in Hollywood could come up with an original idea if they had a gun to their head.
Sad,but true. When I look at it I guess it's surprising they aren't rebooting it and remaking the original?
I also hope they do not CGI The Gremlins.
I think it's probably the one thing we can count on. If they are hopping on the 3D bandwagon, there's no reason to believe they would approach any aspect of the film with an old-school sensibility. Am I the only one who finds 3D to be a distraction?
I think 3D CAN be a distraction depending on how it's used. Films like Up and Avatar show that 3D can be used to enhance a film without being a distraction.
I did see Up and Avatar in 3D and they were visually stunning. But I still found it to be a distraction, especially if you're forced to wear glasses over your own glasses, which can be very uncomfortable. I guess I'll need some prescription 3D glasses.
I agree. It depends on the film. When Tim Burton did MARS ATTACKS I for the longest time thought it was shot in stop still animation. I had heard later that Burton did not want it to look to CGI and this was back in 1996. After watching that British commercial I noticed that it looked like it was shot old style using the puppets.Although, I was also disappointed to hear parts of Where the Wild Things Are was also shot in CGI. CGI is not a bad thing if done the right way. It just seems like such a cop out and easy way out nowadays.
It isn't that Hollywood is bankrupt of good ideas. That is a tired cliche, even if a little bit true. It's that Hollywood Producers are much less concerned with the art and more concerned with the bottom line. Hollywood isn't run by creative people anymore. Every major studio is owned by a larger corporation. Gremlins 3D doesn't surprise. They will always our childhoods for brand names.

If I hear anything about a GOONIES 3D remake, I'm flying out to Hollywood to hurt someone.
