"Grey Gardens"...Who gets the Emmy...Golden Globe...SAG Awards?
Because YOU know it's going to happen and with good reason :)
I think that they are both going to be in the same category as leading actress (and if they are both up for a SAG award, there is only ONE category anyways). Jessica Lange had second billing, but I think the part was just too big to be put in the supporting category, unless the people in charge want them both to win awards and will put her in the supporting category (which could be cool!)
Anyways, although Jessica Lange has MANY acting awards, I don't think she has an Emmy...not for sure though(I know she didn't win for 'Streetcar'). However, I have long hated Drew Berrymore...maybe it was more the "flashing David Letterman/Party Girl Image" that I hated, but I really wasn't a fan."
However, I LOVED her in "Grey Gardens" and although it would be nice for her to step into the spotlight and receive a major acting award, I think the better performance was Jessica Langes.
What do you think?

Posted: 4/20/09 at 6:40pmI have no HBO unfortunately. I've heard Jessica is better than Drew, but that was in a Washington Post review so I have no idea

Neither.
Stick with the musical.
Drew is not a good actress and Jessica too weird.
Plus, the film should not have bounced back and forth from past to present. It took away the surprise of how the ladies fell into poverty.
And where was Jerry? Should have been Justin Timberlake. :)

Posted: 4/21/09 at 4:49amI thought that Jessica Lange was fabulous, and Drew Barrymore was just OK. I really didn't enjoy the movie as much as the musical. I felt that you understood their lives better from the musical, and the movie jumped around too much. ANyway, why was Jerry excluded from the movie?

Jessica.
And Stockard, the documentary is incredible. Once you see it you'll really understand why the actresses who play the the Edies (both in GG the musical and the HBO movie) are so great. I mean, it's uncanny how they become these characters.
Also, there is a sequel to the GG docu whichh the Maysles' brothers did as well. It fills in some blanks and shows the Beales interacting with other people (besides Jerry) which is very illuminating.

Posted: 4/21/09 at 7:14amThanks Taz....I had no idea about the sequel! I need to check at Blockbuster and see if they have them. If not I'll have to join Netflix!

Criterion has them both in a set. The second one is called "The Beales Of Grey Gardens"

Leave it to Fflag to post his bitter thoughts and sheer nonsense opinions. You're consistent, if anything.
What is the cut off for Emmy consideration? Will it count for this year, when the nominations are announced this summer? Hope so. If not, it will have to wait an entire year.
