Hehe, Calvin, you said credit.
But yes, they do, which would work if I had one.

Posted: 5/12/06 at 12:19pmWalter Bondi has had serious allergy issues that have led to hot spots all his life. Up until a few years ago, all the dr. told us to give him was Tavist, but NOT Tavist-D. I think Benadryl wasn't recommended because it already contains the -D. This worked... like I said until about 2 years ago. He's now on prescription medication.

DayDreamer, is regular old Tavist readily available in a pharmacy?
Cookie, I use animal-specific hotspot spray. I know neosporin is good for humans but not sure about its use on animals. I will check as this hot spot spray doesn't seem to help him at all and, in fact, makes it redder in my opinion.

Posted: 5/12/06 at 12:24pmYou are right about that, bway... Don't use human stuff on doggies. Bad idea.

You can use regular, OTC cortizone cream for the hot spots.
At least until a couple of years ago, you were still able to find Tavist at the pharmacy.

For anyone who wants the info, a list of easy remedies for things like this.
Looks like neosporin is ok.
In MOST instances, people are surprised to find that animal medication is the SAME as human meds, just in drastically lower doses.

"Dab with milk of magnesia to calm irritated skin."
Interesting... that's a way people back home treat sunburns.

It makes sense, but I think I'm just going to go buy some plain, old fashioned aloe vera.
Don't know why I didn't think of that before. He loves Johnson and Johnson baby lotion, by the way.

Posted: 5/12/06 at 1:45pmYes, but unlike the sorely missed Special K, the Elphapug was not deeded a title like Viscount of Uppity-shire... Well, yet....

But of course. He secretly loves the attention.
Oh, Special K. The Elphapug is Earl of Uptown, so I think he's content with that for now.

Well, antihistamines have stopped the sneezing. We'll see if he clears up over time and I still want to take him to the vet to see if they can pinpoint to what he's allergic.
and I have some cute photos to post when I finally remember to upload them from my camera.

Thought I’d pop in and drop a phot or two of the pooch from two weekends ago. You know, when we had that clear, rain-free weekend.
If you’ll notice, they all look the same because it’s so dang hard to get the dog to sit still long enough for a good picture (out of 25, only 5 of them were good) and my camera is awful.

Well, in the first and third ones, he was highly motivated to avoid a particular Husky who kept following him around.
That 2nd one was after the dog run and he was very tired (evidenced by his sprawling pose).
Third, he always looks perturbed. It's his default face.
