I've had partners that have had both -- haired and non-haired in both (ahem) areas -- and it's hard to say. Both have their advantages/disadvantages.
But it totally surprised me what their being 'non-haired' made me capable of. :)
rlb, that's bordering on too much information.
I have to say not hot. I never want a guy who's legs are silkier than mine. Besides, these guys are also the same ones who used to wear EG socks.
Really, shameless? I thought I was being rather tasteful about it. :)
I said bordering, but you're on the edge. :)

Swimmers are the only exception. They're HAWT.
But men should be hairy. That's the only way.

There was an article in Slate last week about this- I almost posted it at the time. The author was all worked up about how straight guys are now shaving/waxing their body hair and how bizarre that is. He also sited TV reality shows that feature young, straight frat-type guys who have waxed or shaved their body hair: Kept, Real World, that VH1 Stripper hunt. It is a bit weird. Especially when they wax their landing strip. I think it's the sexiest thing to see a little treasure trail leading off below the belt and exploring to see what it leads to.
There is this weord fetish currently that men should be hairless. I personally can appreciate all looks, but think the completely smooth grown man is a bit weird. I read a grooming article in a (Supposedly) straight magazine that told men that if you have any body hair that is long enough to "Twirl" around a finger, it has to go- Pubes, Pitts, Legs, where ever. They referred to it as "Manscaping." Weird.
The joy was the variety-- Chris Atkins glistening smooth, Burt Reynolds hairy & manly, Greg Evigan with his boyish face and manly body....Sorry I need to go dig out some 70's fan magazines and do more research!
The hairless look really begins with body builders in the "70's. Since so many gay (and now straight) men were/are into working out, this became a natural to them. I have been smooth for 15 years, and it feels great. That does not mean some hair on a man is unattractive. It depends upon the whole "look" that a guy is going for. For me, back hair has always been a turn-off.
Many of my students (18-22)shave their bodies, I have (ahem) noticed in recent years.

Has anyone noticed though, that whenever a guy gets a "Makeover" the first thing is to wax anything thats furry? I know that a well-furred back can be an acquired taste, but even that "40 year old Virgin" movie that's coming out features the poor guy getting his chest waxed to make himself attractive to women.
The whole shaving and, now, Manscaping thing is something of a trend. I think straight guys are still shaving, but gay men seem to be rediscovering that hair can be hot...and appreciated. I know a couple of guys who used to shave (tried it here a couplea times...too scratchy!) and they stopped recently and have been hit on alot more...
Anyone else notice notice this or is it just my wishful thinking?
Shaving the pubes is just gross. I'm not a pedophile. I'm not into pre-pubescent looks. If you wanna share, have hair down there.
YUCK.
I've said it before. I'm an all Italian boy, and I'm damn proud! I've had really hairy legs since I was like 8.
Hair ROCKS!
And I think if a guy is shaving his pits - there is just something wrong. Why would you do that? Pit hair isn't really that annoying.
Sometimes straight men are so much more annoying with being "smooth."

legs I don't care. balls, yes shave them please!
If the body is naturally smooth, I don't mind. But very few men are totally smooth... shaved legs a big no-no.

too much armpit hair is really nasty when applying stick deodorant.
Thanks to all for your great input. However, I don't recall chorus boys on broadway having hairy legs (La Cage of course, doesn't count) but I think Mamma Mia, Hairspray or the leads in Joseph or at least the pix of Good Vibrations (never wanted to see the show) showed no leg hair! If leg hair is back and all, how come stage aesthetics are not reflecting this?

there's a bit of a backlash against shaving but mostly it's still a part of the metrosexual aesthetic.
I have to agree with the people who are saying not... except if they are swimmers. I do love swimmers, so they can get away with anything in my mind.
