It's my one year anniversary! Believe it or not, at my advanced age, I only officially came out to the ENTIRE world last year. Most of my family knew, all of my coworkers knew, but there were still some stragglers out there to take care of. So last year I tidied up my closet and threw the contents out. I sent out a "press release" to everybody, even if they already knew. The universal response ... "DUH!" But, it was a momentous moment none the less. Kisses and hugs to all those who come out today!

My dear sweet mother believes that it is her fault that I am gay. It has to be her fault because she has a cousin who they have always "suspected" is gay. And, it has to be because my grandmother played the piano/organ at silent films in the 1920's (professionally) so she was around "those" people. The fact that she played at The Gaiety confirms it! And then she convinced my father that it was alright for me to take those dance lessons when I was a child. It's all her fault! I let her live with the guilt!

Marc - similar situation for me - I was out at 15 and I'm 42 now. My parents couldn't have cared less - as long as I was happy. Ya gotta love parents who only want the best for their kids and won't stand in the way of their happiness.
My mom even used to set me up on dates with men when I became an adult - she's the best!
I'm Gay! Whoo hoo!

How's about a rousing chorus of Keep it gay!

To all of my gay friends and family who have braved the elements to come out and be who they are. It is much like the beginning of the affirmative action movements for blacks and women. It takes a few generations of being 'in their face' before you can get them to realize you aren't going away.

I talk to older people who still don't get it and, while they know homosexuality has been around for thousands of years, they don't want to talk about it or know about it. That is a luxury we can't afford in this world. We all are different and we are what we are. The sooner we GET that, the sooner we can work on abolishing wars that start because of a difference in beliefs in God and the hatred that stems from fearing what is different about each of us. We should celebrate our individuality and the things we each bring to life.

my family HATES that I am gay.

I was assumed to be the "gay one" since i was younger and firsts tarted out a s a performer. in MY family, you are expected to be an athlete -- a good athlete... okay, agreat athlete who plays 2 or 3, maybe even 4, sports.

When i was 16, I plastered my bedroom with posters of hot celebrity guys. LOL.

I never was one to be subtle when I wanted to say something.
