If you didn't know Dane Cook has a sitcom called "Next Caller," maybe it's because it hasn't aired a single episode. NBC must've realized they had given the go-ahead to a Dane Cook sitcom. Thinking quickly, they cancelled it.
Something had to had happen behind the scenes for them to realize. "We made a terrible mistake!". They filmed 4 of the 6 ordered episodes. Maybe they thought having two shows in the radio profession (Go On that had the full-season order was the other) was overkill. And maybe they realized how much of a failure it was in aiming low in broad "traditional" sitcoms and that Dane Cook just sucks.
In other NBC related programming, the Bryan Fuller penned reboot of The Munsters aka Mockingbird Lane will just be a Halloween special.
I'm actually looking forward to Mockingbird Lane!
I'm actually looking forward to Mockingbird Lane!
I just don't get him. I don't think he's funny, he can't really act, and his entire persona is annoying to me. I believe he was going to be in a play last season at the theatre that I work in, but it was "postponed">
Yeah, he was supposed to be in Fat Pig.
The images they released from Mockingbird Lane look great... I have a feeling it was just a series NBC didn't know what to do with. I'm curious about the pilot and looking forward to it.
Kad, at least "officially," the press release said that the creators just weren't able to convince NBC how MOCKINGBIRD LANE would work as a long running series. I'm curious to see the one hour pilot, at least it wasn't deemed unwatchable like the WONDER WOMAN pilot, for example.
Cook is pretty talent-lite. His bad-boy thing was tired, didn't have the appeal with the chicks that he was hyped to have, and trying to be the next Bill Murray fizzled. He'll be dancing with the stars soon.
I think his fan-base of frat boys jumped to Daniel Tosh anyway.
But re: Mockingbird Lane, although I have issues with the casting, it seems that the expenses involved were not a risk NBC was willing to take. I tend to give it the benefit of the doubt being a Bryan Fuller production, but I'll definitely seek the pilot out.
He has a bad reputation among my comic friends of being a hack.
Wasn't he called out on stealing material fairly on? I think Strummer is right that much of his appeal was taken over by Tosh--not that I'm a fan of either, but he seems to basically be Cook but with more edge.
It's funny that NBC thinks Mockingbird Lane may not have the stamina for a full series--considering some shows hey have had. I'm glad we'll still get to see the pilot--it seems a throwback to he 70s to air pilots and pretend they're made for TV specials.

No one likes Dane Cook. His frat boy fans have moved on and he was never able to expand beyond them.
