Zac Efron's in it. Everyone and their mom is going to see it.
But I'm guessing moderate hit.
Hip hop.
Seriously, though? Definitely a hit. It's got a wide range of stars in it, from people like Effron that kids can identify with to Travolta and Walken, who older people can identify with. Both my little cousins and my grandmother wants to see it, plus my friends, my mother and even a few people I know who hates musicals. The trailers seem fun and universally appealing. It's the ideal summer blockbuster.
HUGE hit!
Moderate hit.
I hope it does well, just came back from seeing it, we loved it, it got a standing ovation at the theatre, it was fantastic!
I think its box office performance will be at the level of The Producers.
I think the numbers will be FAR higher than THE PRODUCERS.
With a cast that has something for everybody and a few strong reviews so far, I think it will be at least a moderate hit.
I agree with at least moderate hit. I just saw it. It was cute, funny, and very fun!
Did NOT enjoy Travolta, however.
I think it is going to be HUGE because it's audience span is bigger than the other musicals that have been to theaters in the past few years. With DREAMGIRLS, the main demographic was African-American and theatre people. With CHICAGO, the main demographic was theatre people and teenagers. THE PRODUCERS was 99% theatre people. With HAIRSPRAY, it fits the High School Musical crowd with Zach . . . the theatre folks . . . adults who grew up in the 60s . . . adults and teens who love GREASE . . . fans of the original movie, etc.
I will be highly surprised if it does not do well at the box office.
I think it will do well, but with Harry Potter and The Simpsons Movie opening around it, I think it could get easily overshadowed.
Hit, and numbers much, much higher than the Producers.
I think it will suck...but be a hit anyway
Why do you think it will suck?
Have you seen the previews? It looks dreadful.
Besides Liam, who said they think it will suck?
I don't know...I'm just surprised by all my "non-theatre" friends who seem completley creeped out by John Travolta. He's completely turning them off from seeing the movie.
Yes, I have seen the previews, AC and it makes me more excited to see the movie every time the trailer comes on.

My 11 year old said that it will be interesting to see Hairspray, "There will be High School Musical fans, gays, and African Americans."
Your 11 year old is wise beyond his years.
I think this will be a relative hit, regardless of its quality...

I would go with this. I'll make an effort to see Travolta in most things, but not this...
