Saw this on CNN today.
NEW YORK (AP) -- It was ever so brief, but the use of a body double by Miley Cyrus on her best-selling "Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus 'Best of Both Worlds' " tour is creating plenty of buzz.
Miley Cyrus' "Hannah Montana" tour is one of the biggest going, with tickets in high demand.
A video posted on YouTube shows the 15-year-old entertainer as "Hannah" dancing onstage with a group of dancers and the Jonas Brothers, also on the tour. During the song, someone ushers her offstage via a trap door. Immediately, another girl dressed like the character "Hannah" in the same pink trench coat with blonde hair covering her faces dances around, runs up the stage set, and then quickly leaves.
While the double is holding a microphone for her less than a minute, the girl motions like she is singing. However, a rep for Miley said the switch was only for costume purposes.
"To help speed the transition from Hannah to Miley, there is a production element during the performance of 'We Got the Party' incorporating a body double for Miley," according to statement Friday from the public relations firm PMK.
"After Hannah has completed the featured verse on the duet with the Jonas Brothers, a body double appears approximately one to two minutes prior to the end of the song in order to allow Miley to remove the Hannah wig and costume and transform into Miley for her solo set. Other than during this very brief transitional moment in the show, Miley performs live during the entirety of both the Hannah and Miley segments of the concert."
Miley's "Hannah Montana" tour is one of the nation's hottest tours, selling out within minutes when tickets went on sale last fall. Some people have been reselling tickets for thousands of dollars. Miley has released two albums under the "Hannah Montana" brand, both of which have sold more than two million copies.
The "Hannah Montana" is an offshoot of the Walt Disney Co. TV show.

People will get upset over anything. Surely there are other performers who have done this.

As in why did I post this, or why is it on CNN?
I posted it because it was on CNN and I wanted to see what people here thought about it being "news". As for why CNN posted it, I do not know.

Wow! OMG, REALLY?! That's amazing, considering costumers have used vodka to get the stink out of costumes for YEARS. It's no big deal.

It's not that big of a deal. It's done all the time on Broadway as people have mentioned.
Has anyone seen the clip? It wouldn't have been so bad if it was done smoother...instead of one of her dancers throwing a black blanket or whatever over her to take her off stage....

Posted: 1/12/08 at 10:51pmIt's kind of hysterical how obvious it is. I watched it on Youtube....you see some guy that looks too old to be on the stage COVER HER WITH A SHEET! (rigggght...because that happens all the time during pop concerts ... o_0 ) and then...about a millisecond later the double comes out wearing these hideous white sunglasses and what do you know the live feed on the video screen stops and its this random recording. The least they could do is have her put on the glasses before the switch and take out the sheet bit....so conspicuous.

Seriously, I don't understand why it's such a big deal and why it's all the sudden news. It's been being done since the start of the tour in October, but now people realize. I went to the concert on Monday (b/c i love the Jonas Brothers not Miley, though i think she's good) and saw it first hand. Big Whoop! She's like Britney. She's more known for stage performance and less of a vocal masterclass.

Stuff like that happens all the time. It's not as if she was actually singing live anways....that's like saying Britney would sing live...

The news seems more about how it's upsetting fans, not that they use a double in the show to cover a costume change for a couple of minutes.
It's upsetting to "fans" who think they are being duped. They start to wonder if there are doubles or pre-recording going on anywhere else in the show. It makes them less trusting that they're getting a "live" show.
And, yes, I think it's stupid. But not nearly as stupid as the money these people shelled out to see her. Some people are paying practically $100 per minute, and they just got two minutes shaved off.
Because we should all be paying two month's rent for tween TV singers and measuring our entertainment with a stopwatch, or by the yard, or in bulk---like at Costco.
