December 25th is the one time of year where all Jews, of which I am one, feel that odd sensation in their blood to go to the movies collectively.
Happy moviewatching!

Posted: 12/25/07 at 6:47pmMy family celebrates Christmas, but we're going to see Enchanted. (I've already seen it but they haven't.)
I remember days
Or at least I try
But as years go by
They're sort of haze
And the bluest ink
Isn't really sky
And at times I think
I would gladly die
For a day of sky

Posted: 12/25/07 at 6:52pmWe do a movie every Christmas, it's a tradition my family. It's my birthday and movie theaters and chinese food are basically the only places open, so we usually have no choice but to do the Jewish Christmas.

colleen, that's basically what my family does. Every year on Christmas we go see a movie and the past three years, the movies have been packed. We had to do the express ticket thing at the Regal near me and we made it in before Sweeney started. We were close to getting Chinese tonight for dinner, but we had lasagna instead. Happy Birthday by the way Colleen(mine's on Thursday).
The Water Horse was apparently sold out, I don't know what time, but it was sold out. There were alot of people though at Sweeney, and this audience was more responsive to it than the one from this past Saturday.

I saw Sweeney also, the theater was about half full.
We were commenting how much the audiences grow every year. We've been doing the "Birthday Movie" for about 15 years now and every year it gets more and more crowded.

Posted: 12/25/07 at 8:26pmMy mom made the comment earlier that she didn't think that it would be crowded at the movies because the movie was at 2:10 and a good majority of people would be out on their way to visit grandma or something like that, we pass the movies and the parking lot was full. My sister turned to my sister and said, I guess all these people don't have any grandmas.

Posted: 12/25/07 at 11:51pm...had Chinese today w/mom (we're Jewish and it's her anniversary!?) at a very nice, obscure, restaurant CHEF YU (NYC - 36th & 8th). Outstanding ambience (in the middle of drecky Eighth Ave). What a find! Happy hour drinks - $3.50. Food - above average. Linen tablecloths and napkins! Spacious, w/a cool balcony. Prices - unbelievably cheap! Atmosphere: extremely clean, beautiful; romantic, even.

I'm part of the movie and chinese food crowd.
There was a group of 10 of us. Me, my parents, my aunt, and a couple neighbors and family friends.
I saw Juno.
5 people saw Atonement
My aunt saw Great Debaters
3 people saw I am Legend.
We all met for Chinese food (where every other Jew, their mother and grandparents were.)
Then we went back to a neighbors house and played some games.
My aunt got donuts for dessert since she had a gift card. Dunkin' Donuts was open!

Well the Chinese place wasn't opened tonight. It has been open EVERY OTHER year! Weird.
Anyways, Atonement was ok, I didn't really love it but it was a very well made film and was visually beautiful. Also, the score was quite something.
