Finished my second read of the book. Wooh.
1st I noticed a LOT of parallels between Harry and Snape. A LOT. I can't believe that Snape is just evil. He's too complicated and developed. Also, he ALWAYS protects Harry. Every book, every time, he protects Harry. When the siblings Crucio (yes?) Harry as he is trying to duel with Snape, Snape STOPS THEM immediatly and is very pissed off. And I am just beginning to realize something that I think is HUGE.
Voldemort told Lily she didn't have to die. He was honestly saying that. He wouldn't have killed Lily if she didn't force him to by protecting Harry. WHY? Maybe because Snape told Voldemort and asked only that Lily be spared. Get rid of the husband and kid, leave her open for Snape to sweep in. Mental, I know, but Snape (I think) loved her so much that he would do anything to get her. But when she was killed...he went back to Dumbledore.
JK is very careful when she talks about Lily. And about Snape.
Also I am now POSITIVE that Dumbledore and Snape had a plan and that Dumbledore was asking Snape to kill him, not save him.
2nd something cute, in the first potions class both Harry and Hermione smell something of their beloved (Hermione stops saying what she smells from the love potion and blushes...suggesting she smells something Ron-ish, and Harry smells the rose smell of Ginny, tho he doesn't recognize it then).
3rd I do think it will be Malfoy who teaches at Hogwarts after everything is done. Him or Hermione...or Neville. Hmm. Got a couple good prospects for that one.
4th If Harry is a horcruxe (sp?), and I'm still not sure if he is, then I think Snape will destroy that part of Voldemorts soul, seeming to be attacking Harry, and get killed because of it. Maybe. And then he reveals his love for Lily. Maybe. Hmm.
That's all I can think of at this point.
