Woh. What are the other names?
Broadway Legend Joined: 2/1/05
well, McGonagall is Galagony, Snape is Piton, ...those names that meant nothing special: Potter, Weasley are the same.
there are translations for other names: Knockturn alley, Diagon Alley which is Abszolút (because "út" means road) and stuff like that. So that is why it's hard to read the English book at the beginning because I suddenly don't know who is who. :)

that's hilarious.
I want to read the British version of the books.

Sorry, that was the Hungarian version. The British and the American are the same
"2. I don't know whether Dumbledore knew about the poisened drink or not but when he was talking with Malfoy, he closed his eyes too many times (I guess he was talking with Snape all this time in a telepathic way, thay is why Snape hurried to the room so quickly and knew which room he should go) No one could tell him, because everyone was fighting."
I don't know about Dumbledore communicating with Snape. In OotP Snape says that you need eye contact, but the connection between Harry and Voldemort seem to defy these conditions. However, Dumbledore was so powerful, he might have been able too. As for no one being able to tell Snape where to go, couldn't Flitwick have told him before he passed out/was stunned?
I have learned never to take any opinions the characters have as fact, as well as their interpertations of certain facts. Doing so has proven to be wrong in past books: (PoA, believing Sirius was after Harry and in Sorceror's Stone assuming Snape was after the Stone/causing Harry to fall of his broom).
I know that the Sorceror's Stone is called The Philosopher's Stone for the British book (and movie), are there any other differences?
Edit: I am on my second read of the book. Does anyone else go back to the books right away to see what they missed/misinterperted?

I just finished about an hour ago. I was talking to friends at Barnes and Noble before midnight on Friday and we were guessing who was going to die and we both thought that Dumbledore might be the one. I wasnt really surprised about Snape being the half blood prince either. And though it was really obvious that Snape was on Voldemorts side, I keep thinking there is something that we don't know about him and that he is really on the good side. Every single book, Harry and his friends think that Snape is behind the evil things happening, but every book they find out they were wrong and just didn't have all the facts. I still sort of feel this is going to happen in the next book. Maye someone took a Polyjuice potion to look like Snape(I'm probably wrong, but I am still in denial that Snape is really evil)
On a side note-did anyone else sing "Lily's Eyes" from the Secret Garden every time they would mention that Harry had his mother(Who irronicly is named Lily)'s eyes?

I'm starting it up again tonight! I love these books...
I didn't sing, but I did think. I always knew that mentioning Lily's eyes would prove to be a big point in the book. I also think that Harry is a horocrux. His scar could be where Voldemort's soul entered his body. That could explain the connection between the two and how Harry can sense his emotions and such. Am I the only one who's thought this?
YAY I FINISHED!! now I can read these threads....
WOW..can I just say...WOW

Kel, I definitly think it is a possibilty and it would explain why Harry has never died by Voldemorts hand, he knows he has to take back his soul or something? I dunno, I am happy to let JKR decide how to clean up that mess.

I HATE SNAPE!!!!! OH THE EVIL DSNGFAJSKFGBAEKLRHTGKJ
It just hit me as I was typing, I don't know where it came from, it would be interesting to see what JKR does with this story in the 7th book. Is it ready to be released yet??

She has written parts of it, but is (understandably) taking a break and spending time with her young daughter. She said that next year is when she will be working on it hardcore.
Oh yeah, that other stuff she does as a human being besides feed our need for HP stuff...
Why did Dumbledore have to drink the mysterious posionous liquid...why didn't they just dump it out?...
Good question, I never really thought about it. It was probably enchanted that if you dumped it out it would refill the bowl or something.

I think it was a part of his plan (which ended murdered him by Snape). He wasn't on top form through the entire book, that is why he wanted Harry to be with him, because all by himself he couldn't go back to Hogwarts to be killed.
lol maybe...I just thought it was a weird reaction, hey look there is a big vat of murkey suspicious liquid, wow I probably have to drink it...I think it would have been at least worth the trouble to explore other options...

Interesting Blu. I never thought of that.
Yeah but a big bowl of liquid with a crystal goblet next to it? Kind of obvious, if not disturbing, as to what would have to be done.
Dumbledore conjured the crystal goblet...
Oh, I must have missed that, it was about 1:30am when I was reading that part.
Can we have a pensive and a bottle of JKR plot ideas?
Ah I'm sounding cynical and contentious sorry, I really did love it...but my last question is if one can disapparate with someone else with them, why did everyonemake the huge deals about portkeys in the 4th book?
Possibly because underaged wizards can use portkeys without getting in trouble. An of age wizard had to charm the item, the underage wizard doesn't have to use magic to use a portkey.
Well, I mean when Dumbledore Disapparated with Harry, Harry wasn't using any magic...just holding on...
