True, but portkeys can carry many people at the same time, the whole Weasley family used a portkey for the Quidditch world cup. I doubt Dumbledore could have carried 10 people with him. I will be back later to finish this discussion, I have to acctually do some work for the next 10 min or so then go home. See ya

It probably takes a good deal of concentration and skill to apperate with another person. Don't forget, Dumbledore is one of the most powerful wizards of all time. He is quite skilled and able to do things most wizards / witches cannot. Not all wizards/witches apperate in the first place. Hogwarts is a school for the best of the best, so the fact that almost all (if not all) it's students can apperate after reaching 17 years of age is not that suprising.
As for the liquid, Dumbledore knew a lot about the situation he was walking into, having done research before walking in so that he wasn't blindly leading Harry into danger. He knew he had to ingest the liquid and knew it would leave him near death (hence bringing Harry along in the first place). Obviously Voldemort put a spell on the liquid so that if it was not ingested (and therefore poisoned the person ingesting it) then the person could not obtain the necklace. He himself (volde) probably had another method that DUmbledore was unable to learn of. or Vold planned on just bringing a stooge to drink it for him, if he ever planned to take it out in the first place.
To play devils advocate a bit longer ...Harry was able to disapparate with Dumbledore too, so it doesn't seem prohibitively difficult...

Tru, however under stressful cercumstances we have seen Potter do amazing things that grown wizards would find difficult (Patronus against 100+ dementors, etc.) But good point!
The possible answer can then be found in more common sense terms...would you trust yourself to be apparated by somebody else? I mean, what if they left a leg or eyebrow or other important appendages (winkwink) behind?
So does anyone think that Ginny is going to pull a Tonks and say "Screw the danger! I want to be with you." to Harry?

Yah, probably pullin the ol' book and possesion card out again. Oh, and that silly thing called...what was it? Love? Hmm. Not sure.
(pardon the weird mood-post)
Totally acceptable. I mean I'm sure that Lilly didn't back off when she realized that James was in trouble, Voldemort gave her the options to step away from Harry, but she stayed. And she had red hair and striking green eyes...hmm..Who does that sound like? Red hair, green eyes, fiercely loyal, good at charms and hexes..Oh yeah. Ginny. Coinciedence? I doubt it.

I hate how Ginny's just now becoming a full character.
I know, she's been in the background so much. Even in CoS, Tom Riddle was the main character, Ginny was just the tool. Now she is firey and a really interesting character.
so.....who thinks that this one, especially with the random dead bodies and the like, is goind to be a bitch to make into a movie??
I do...
and OMG this book was SUPER.....but yet, the ending sort of leaves me wondering..
owwww...I want to be casted as a dead body since I was hoodwinked out of the role of cho chang!!!!
WOW, I just finished reading this book. I did not think that Dumbledore was going to die in the book, Sure I saw the signs, but I always kept thinking "He can't die yet." I disagree about Snape, I think he is totally evil and why would Dumbledore want Snape to kill him? I don't get that theory at all.
On a lighter note, I liked all the romance in this book. Though, I thought the whole Harry and Ginny thing was a little out of nowhere. Harry never hinted in any of the books before this one that he thought of Ginny as any more than Ron's little sister. I also thought there would be more Cho in this book, but I guess her and Harry are definatly over. I thought it was cute how Ron and Hermione kept getting jealous over eachother.
I can not wait for the next book or the next movie to come out.
I agree that this book is gonna be hard to make a movie but not as hard as The Order of the Phoenix, though, that is either gonna be a 5 hour movie or it's going be badly butchered and missing lots of stuff. So much stuff happens, plus the Department of mysteries is going to be really hard to do.
OoTP will be butchered no doubt. One can only hope that when it arrives on DVD, there are a lot of extras - maybe even a directors cut..

They could always include some of book 5 in book 6 (er, movie 5 in movie 6).
"Who does that sound like? Red hair, green eyes, fiercely loyal, good at charms and hexes..Oh yeah. Ginny. Coinciedence? I doubt it. "
I was thinking along the same lines. Wasn't it in the teasers that it would be important that Lily was good at Charms? Doesn't Ginny have a knack for a good Bat Bogey Hex? The red hair and everything else - it is just way to similiar. Plus it just makes it so much easier story telling wise. Keeping the main characters at a minimum. Harry and Ginny then Ron and Hermione. Where as each of them having a different signifigant other that would be 8 seperate character. Oy.
I rather enjoy Ginny's character. She has a fire in her (many its the red hair? ), just really spunky. Also I don't think it was out of nowhere. Well it was for Harry, but Ginny has liked him since day one.
"why would Dumbledore want Snape to kill him? I don't get that theory at all."
Think about it. Draco was forced into attempting to kill Dumbledore, if he didn't succeed death would surely be his fate. Rather than having Draco become a murder he was pleading to Serverus to do it for him. Also, Dumbledore was NOT afraid of death. He called it "the next great adventure" (or something of that nature).
Edit: (didn't want to post again) Also, I have been reading some theories saying that Harry might be a Horcrux. I hihgly doubt this. Dumbledore kept repeating that Voldemort can't stand to posses Harry because how much love Harry has inside of himself. So how could part of Voldemort's soul dwell in his body?
on the other hand, TGIF, many people have surmised that Harry is a literal descendent of Gryffindor, maybe even the last one? That would make him the Gryffindor object Voldemort was seeking, and perhaps even why he chose Harry over Neville.

Okay, here goes:
Snape is a bastard on the side of the angels. I think it's extremely telling that Dumbledore doesn't reveal the full reason why he trusts Snape so completely, despite his overall policy of telling Harry what he needs to know this year, unlike last year. Also, do you really think Dumbledore would plead for his life? He was dying already from the effects of that potion, and was weakened all year from the after-effects of the Horcrux. Snape's Avada Kedavra solved a few problems- it got Malfoy (sort of) out of his mess, it let Snape stay with the Death Eaters, and it prevented Snape's own death from the Unbreakable Oath. Finally, even as he was running away from Hogwarts and Harry was trying to curse him, all he did was block the curses. Harry was clearly outclassed; Snape could have hit him at any time, but he didn't even immobilize him.
I found it sadly ironic that Snape-as-Half-Blood-Prince was a better Potions teacher than Snape himself. A continuing theme in the book is people letting their hatred and preconceptions get in the way of clear thinking- Harry and Snape are both guilty of it, and it prevents Snape from teaching Harry properly even when he wants to.
I think Snape had a crush on Lily. Maybe they collaberated on weird potions together.
I'm totally buying the RAB = Regulus Black, the unopenable locket = Horcrux, and Mundungus pawned it off theory. But what do you guys think of Harry or his scar being an accidental Horcrux?
Finally, finally, Draco gets some depth. It's made pretty clear that Tom Riddle was a sociopath from childhood, but Malfoy is more of a petty bully. But in this book we see him kept out of the Slug Club not just despite his name but because of it, a huge change from the treatment he usually gets. We also get a hint of how his life at Hogwarts is like a distorted mirror of Harry's: Like Harry, he has two unbelievably faithful friends in Crabbe and Goyle. They're not the brightest bulbs, but they agreed to Polyjuice themselves into little girls for him, and that's a sacrifice. Also like Harry, he has a mentor and quasi-father figure in Snape just like Harry found one in Dumbledore. It's like he and Harry have been running on parallel tracks all these years, but we only get glimpses of Malfoy's path. I don't know if Malfoy will be redeemed somehow, but it's nice that Rowling made him scared and smart and more real than before.
Another nice piece of irony pointed out on LJ- Malfoy's whole plan was pieced together from things the Good Guys did before. The cabinet, the Polyjuice Potion, the signalling coins- it's all there.
I don't really like Ginny that much for some reason. Maybe I was turned off by her impassioned defense of "snogging." Seems there better things to get pissed off about. But while I saw some textual support for that pairing, Remus and Tonks took me totally by surprise. I still think Fleur's a bit of a snot, but she's not awful, clearly, so I hope she gets along with her in-laws from now on. :)
Harry will go back to Hogwarts for at least some time, if not necessarily to study. The Horcruxes are mostly founders' objects, it's emphasized that Harry and Tom Riddle were both happiest at the school, and it would just make the structure of the 7th book too different from the others if there was no school at all. I do think, however, that the Quidditch and House Cups will be nonexistent or of practically no significance. They've become less and less important in each book, and by the end of this one the rubies were spilling out of the Gryffindor hourglass. Not to mention the Sorting Hat urging the unification of the houses. I think we're finally going to see that hat's wish come true, at least to some extent, in the final battle against Voldemort.
And finally, I think the dead will play an important part in Book 7. Maybe Harry will visit the magical underworld, or maybe there will be a seance of some kind, but we're going to see Dumbledore, Sirius, and the others again. Doesn't the wise old wizard always come back from death to give his young protegee advice?
Wow, that was long. And I didn't even go into my theory on the importance of socks. :P

Well, since Dumbledore can always be consulted via his picture, I would guess he'll be available for advice, no? Which makes me wonder... In Dumbledore's office, he can talk to all the previous headmasters of Hogwarts - and in Sirius old place (OotP), Sirius was always having fights with his mother's picture, I think. How is it that Harry was never able to speak to his parents and/or Sirius through their pictures? Did I miss something?

I doubt the pictures will give much help, as those inhabiting them know that their time is over and they should let those still living learn and die by their own skill and wit.
But I do agree that Sirius and Dumbledore have to come back at some point in some way. Most likely to remind him of their love for him, and / or to help him view Snape in a different way. I definitly think that Snape is going to be a VERY important character in book 7.

Maybe wizard photos are different from painted portraits somehow.

WOW! I loved this book... possibl my fave of the set so far. Everything was perfect and now were finding out more about Voldermort were able to peice the whole story together snippet by snippet. I think thr romance is superb (TONKS ROCKS) and i was really impressed with Fleur at the end... she proved them all wrong! Ginny and Harry will be back together at the start of the next book i'm sure... Harry will need someone over his dead body at the end of 7 and Ron and Hermionie will be all over each other!
The pictures and portraits are different--JKR has even said so. Pictures can't communicate the way portraits can.
Plum, I love you. I am totally with you on everything (except I like Ginny--though it was weird how she blew up like that)!

But why Harry and Luna. Why does Rowling want a strong connection between the two family. I liked Luna in this and the previous book as well, why was she appeared from nowhere when she has no part of the story???

"she has no part of the story???"
She was the way they got Harry's interview published in Book 5. Plus she helps Harry have trust in himself, like in Book5 when he wasn't sure if he was insane and imagining things and she said she saw them, but he didn't believe her because of the rumors going around about himself. but as he began to trust her, he realized she /they were right. etc.
Plus she is a good way to judge his moral character (ie the train ride to Hogwarts where he called them cool etc.).
