Anyone else want to know where the other portrait of Dumbledore's will be? Godric's Hollow? The Ministry?
do we know that each former Headmaster GETS two portraits? I thought in OotP that there were just the couple that coincidentally had them at other places (St. Mungo's; Grimmauld Place).
I would think something to do with the Ministry and his other titles (Wizengamot, etc.) that he held. I'm sure there will be several of Dumbledore, they always referred to him as the greatest wizard and stuff...he was a living legend...now he's an official legend

I bet different Headmasters have different numbers and locations of portraits depending on how famous and successful they were. Someone like Dumbledore might have his portrait in a few interesting places.
And I love Luna, who went from comic to tragicomic in a few lines. Her Quidditch commentary was priceless, and the scene when Harry is secure in saying that she and Neville are his friends is great. Harry's grown up so much. *sniffle* Not every 16-year-old is that secure in themselves. (Which is why I loved his scenes with the new Minister, too.)
I was one of the people who thought Rowling should make more extensive use of editors after the unbelievable lengths of books 4 and 5, but now I kind of regret that. With a little more rambling we could have gotten more depth to the romantic pairings, more Neville, etc. And I really thought we'd find out what Harry's parents did for a living by now. Oy.
Look for Petunia to do something important in Book 7.
I missed the excessive rambling in HBP. It reminded me of the movies. The essential story was there, but there was so little of the extras that make the wizarding world so real.

Maybe at this point Rowling just decided she'd done enough world-building and the important thing was to set up the ending. She did it pretty gracefully, but there was a ton of exposition in HBP.
That is exactly how I felt yoda...There weren't many sideplots and many characters were hardly mentioned at all, the entirety of the order of pheonix, Fred and George, even Hermione barely had a part and no sidestory of her own, except the relatiosnhip between she and ron which never manifested anyway...
Was anyone else unclear how Harry and Ginny left their relationship? Did she agree to split up? I am currently rereading it, but didn't reach the end yet.

It was an amiable breakup with the implication that they'd try again if the Voldemort/Death Eater threat disappeared.
That is what I figured. Althought this did cross my mind. Harry has never been good at Occlumency (sp?) and Voldemort is supposed to be the best at Legilismency (i KNOW i butchered that). If Voldemort wants to go after who is important to Harry, it wouldn't be very difficult to find out. Even if they are apart, I doubt Harry's feelings will change.
I am also still reading it. What I'd like to know is, do they name a new headmaster or will we have to wait for that?
McGonagle is the headmistress for now .. but they didnt say if she would stay the headmistress

It's McGonagall. She was Deputy Headmistress, and she gets to go into Dumbledore's office in the end.
Yay!! That is just what I was hoping for. (doing a happy dance)
I'm baffled.
I found out a friend of mine read/flipped through the back of the book before she started! Now, she has always been one to beg you to tell her how a movie ends but I couldn't believe this!
I would have seriously injured anyone that spoiled something for me.
Did anyone else do that?
I just think it ruins the whole book.
That reminds me of the movie Alex and Emma. She always read the ending to see if it was worth reading the whole book. I never understood that.
Someone tried, but I fussed at them and made them stop. I didn't want it ruined for me.

Since you can't be a Headmistress and a Professor at the same time, someone's going to have to replace McGonnagal as the Head of Gryffindor and as a Professor... and also the DADA teacher has to replaced, again.
Those are my two cents.
I bet that if Harry survives book 7 he will be invited to be the next DADA teacher. Anyone else think this?
They sort of made a big deal in this book about being quite a bit older than 18 to be allowed to teach...

If he survives, probably.
And it's Harry, not Tom.
I didn't mean right away, but then again, if Harry can beat Voldemort then I think that he is OVER qualified for the job regardless of his age.

And do you know how many students would try to get into Hogwarts, knowing that Harry's a teacher.
But, would the curse be lifted?
When Dumbledore died Harry was released from the freezing spell placed on him, when Voldemort dies won't his spells be undone?
Actually, JKR has said that neither Ron nor Harry will be a teacher at Hogwarts. One of their classmates will, but "it is not maybe the one you think." That rules out Hermione for me. I'm really fond of the idea that Neville will become the Herbology professor some day. :)

I've seriously read way too many JKR interviews and often can remember, "JKR said this," and then have to go find it again to make sure I'm not making it up in my head.

I think reading up on rumors and her interviews spoils it.
