This is not exactly the same thing, but this guy has refused to answer my calls or PMs since the last time I saw him (April 13th), and I had given up on him, and he just randomly called me at 1:30am and asked me to go out to a party with him (which I couldn't... past curfew), and then he called again at 3:30am asking me to go to breakfast with him.
{I know, mine is like the "junior" version of your story, but I thought I'd share anyway since it appears that both happened in the same night.}

As soon as I read "Has Anyone Ever...?", I answered yes, and moved onto the next thread.

So did I Zola. The answer to that question is always yes.
Matt pumpkin, call him back. Hopefully he wants you and you will have the chance to speak to him, be very sweet and nice have graet conversation and explain that you learn from past mistakes an never repeat them. Then tell him how nice it was to hear from him and say goodbye.

Good advice, Nina.
I'm off the phone, Matt, so call me back whenever you're ready.

I'm still trying to decide. I slept maybe about 90 minutes last night, also. This was someone I met when I was 8 and was a part of my life until we were adults.

hey Matt,
I have a friend like that. We were so close for so many years and he's sort of extricated himself from his entire circle of friends...and just recently, he began making efforts to come back. It's hard because you have to move on from these things (especially if the relationship was more than friendship)...but perhaps you can gain a better measure of closure by speaking to him. So good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Okay, I made the phone call and just spent 45 minutes talking. I closed my eyes and it was 1998 again. I can't remember the last time I was as happy as I just was on the phone.

Good for you Matt...
similar thing happened to me -- someone from college got my email from an alumni directory and wanted to know what was up and cold we "patch things up" (after he drained my bank account for "nose candy")....
It took me a while to answer, but I did and feel pretty good about it -- even when things are "bad", there are always good times and memories...
Hope it works out however you want it to...

The more you ruv someone
The more you want to kill him...
Glad you had a good conversation. People do change, give him a chance, just look out for yourself.

Hey Matt
Keep the faith. You're witty, intelligent and tons of fun. Something good is on the horizon, new or old...

I'm happy for you!
But do be careful.
(btw, not that you care, but the guy from my story never called back after the 3:30 breakfast call.)
