"real" or "fake", i liked Mack. He was compelling to me. i just wished they would have played some DIRTY DANCING music when he was practicing the lift in the lake. His "Arabian" didn't look that bad, but they could have edited out the mistakes, i'm sure---in that performance sequence and in the audition sequence. The Rock School came out well, i thought, and i liked the ballet coach. The twist that Mack's partner in that "lift" class wouldn't make the performance cast if he didn't was pure bull****, of course.
i thought the mother came across well and realistic to a point. And you can't convince me the producers "manufactured" his father's suicide, or the motivations mother and son showed in its aftermath.
If the stories are somewhat manufactured, where's the damage? everything has narrative attached these days, from news reporting to sports coverage. At least goals with some skill level (tapping on Broadway, making a sports team, dancing ballet, dance/drill team) are featured along with adolescent-wish-fulfillment (Prom King, Homecoming Queen, etcetera).
Bear in mind it's entertainment first, or console yourself with true (but likely less superficially interesting) documentaries.
lol i just watched this cause someone said the kid was from de.
i cant tell you the show is SO FAKE for one if he wanted to be a ballet dancer why couldnt he just sign up for it at the school he goes to which is an arts school.
