i have an adversion to looking like every other person in the world. they say they haven't learned how to clone humans yet, but everytime i go out all i see are clones.
so no, i don't like hollister, or pretty much any other outfitter that kids feel they need to master the "cool look."
Yeah, didn't mean to offend anyone that like being a walking bilboard (hey jwei!). My best friend is the perfect example, and he first time I said that to her she just shrugged and bought two "ABERCROMBIE!" shirts. What are you gonna do:) I'll buy basically anything if it's not unreasonably expensive and I like it; doesn't really matter what store.
And yay class of '06! (It feels so weird. I still cannot believe I am a senior.)
Yeah, I would never shop there, I'm 6'4 so I have to get a 2X just to my pants, and in Hollister they dont even (rarly) have a 2X so I cant even go there, But I Love American Eagle and Gap.

i am a j.crew girl myself....so this is a biased review.
i can't stand hollister OR a&f. why, you ask? hollister goes up to a 10 in girls sizes...that's annoying. abercrombie used to go 0-14. then they switched it to 00-12. HOW THE HELL CAN YOU HAVE DOUBLE NOTHING AS YOUR PANTS SIZE?!
it's okay though, i boy boy's pants now anyway. they just seem to fit me better and they look more feminine on me than girls jeans did :) it's okay if you think i'm weird
I must disagree, that while I work at Holister, I don not feel that I am a clone... except when I'm at work and have to wear green and grey Hollister (The dress requirements are obscene!). During the week we were setting up the store we could wear whatever we wanted, so I exhausted my entire showshirt collection. I rather enjoyed all the "What is Hairspray/Avenue Q/Rent/etc?" conversations. I really just wear what I like. I don't necessarily go into a store like Hollister to get what will make me "cool". I am confident enough that I don't need their clothes to make me cool. I just wear what I think looks good and I feel comfortable in. But eh... whatev.
And BTW: HELL YEAH CLASS OF '06!!! SENIORS!!!! WOOHOO!!!!
Yeah, I like the clothes, but think the atmosphere is definitely scary. I think it's because they spend all their money on building a freakin' cabana in the middle of the mall and not enough on lighting. And how all of the stores have the exact same set-up with the weird semi-wall down the middle of the store (separating Dudes and Bettys) so that sometimes you can see through to the other side, but you can only switch sides when monitored in front of the registers. It's like a mosque or something.
I think the part that got me was when my friend was reading a magazine in one of the front chairs and accidently carried it off the steps to talk to someone. They freakin' have alarm tags on their magazines and it went off like someone was trying to rip-off their $60 jeans! An employee ran out and made her empty her bag to prove she hadn't stolen any other ones. Could you imagine if like doctor's offices were as anal about people taking their magazines as they are?
what are the dress requirements like?
and btw.... HECK YES SENIORS 06!!!!

Now, from my point of view making distinctions between Hollister, A&F, American Eagle, and their ilk is mostly a matter of nitpicking- in the end, they're all overpriced schmattes. If I want to wear jeans with holes and paint stains in them, I can take out my Habitat for Humanity pair. Genuine wear and tear! Hmm, maybe I should sell them...

HumanTorch: Well, when they hired everyone, they told us we would be allowed to wear anything we wanted, even if it wasn't Hollister, as long as it looked like it could be from the store.
... unfortunately, they were lying. We are required to wear green and grey Hollister clothes to work (they're the colors we're pushing) with Hollister jeans. And u aren't allowed to wear anything brown, black, white leather... including shoes. So I had to go buy a new $90 pair of shoes for work, as well as all the new work clothes, which really aren't much cheaper with a 20% discount. I've spent more there than I've made.
... It's very confusing working there because all the employees look the same. I can't tell who's who!
wow... that's so restricting... thanks for all this info, i doubt i'd work there now even if I did get asked
