This might not be "golden age", but I always thought the 60s era Roddy McDowall was a little woofy. I understand that he had certain attributes that were noteworthy.

"Not that he wasn't gorgeousness personified, but Errol Flynn looked like he knew things to do to you in bed that would make you see God."

I ca think of a couple more recent actors that fit that description.

Get yourselves a copy of

"SHIRTLESS The Hollywood Male Physique" by Donald F. Reuter.

Page after page of...what the titles says.

I think that it's officially out of print. I saw a huge pile of them on the remainder table at a Barnes Noble for five bucks each. Like a fool, I didn't grab as many as I could. Then I would have perfect gifts for all my friends and acquaintances.

Though, try to get a copy of the hardback.

The binding lasts longer on them.

Robert Ryan!! He had such an amazing physical presence.......truly magnetic.

And I always have loved William Powell. So damn urbane.

Good choices so far. I'd add Jimmy Stewart and Fred Macmurray -what can I say, I like 'em tall.

Oh, and a huge crush on William Conrad's voice. I was extremely disappointed the first time I saw his picture.

Don't be too sure I'm as crooked as I'm supposed to be.

I'm still crazy about Buster Keaton. There are occasional moments where he's got his shirt off, in BATTLING BUTLER, for example, and it is really something to see. And that face, still one of the most beautiful in movies.

And there's good old Jack Carson, who kind of went up and down on the hot meter. He's really at the height of his beauty in MILDRED PIERCE, a big hot lug. Damn, he's sexy. What on earth Mildred sees in that atrocious Bergamon character is beyond me.
