Technically, the word means "fear of the same". Homo is same, phobic is fear of"....
But now it's meant for a person who hates homosexuals.
"john is a Homophobic becose he hates gays"
"john is a Homophobic becouse he wets his pants when he sees gays becouse there scary"
are bouth sentices corect?

Lordy, Liam, with all the words you struggle to spell, the one you get right is homophobic?
obviously Johnny's not ready to admit to himself...
Liam, both sentences are correct, with regard to your use of the word, homophobic. Most things that people hate, they fear; and most fear comes from insecurity about the thing that is feared.
Marry me, Bluemoon.
..star wars moment "fear turns to hate, hate turns to suffering"
::raises hand:: dork
Liam--why don't you look the word up in a dictionary and report back to us?

Actually, now that I think about it, a lot of gays scare me. I'm homophobic.
Wow. More lame dictionary cracks at Liam. As if it's something new and different he's never heard before. If that's all people have to say for the millionteenth time, why bother? Obviously, your comments have no effect.
And Liam, in modern context, only the first sentence is correct. In literal context, "homophobia" would be a fear of any two things that are the same, such as an irrational feeling of fear when one person sees two identical white VW Bugs parked next to each other. In many cases, this results in feelings of paranoia and conspiracy.
I thought somebody should answer his question.
Why can't he answer it himself? He's 14, isn't he? Not 7.
