I am going to Paris next week and I booked at the Hotel Lancaster...does anyone know anything about it that may lie beyond the website's photos? (i.e issues with staff, etc...) I got a really good rate on it at 315 Euros a night...so I am wondering if there is a downside to it.

Besides, it was one of the few luxury hotels in Paris that has avalibility.

315E you call a good rate????.....let's see, that's $408 a night? Who is crazy enough to pay that????

I'd call $408 a night a definate downside.....

In Paris, we rent an apartment, $600 for a week, excellent location.....

I've never understood people who pay a fortune on a hotel during vacation, when they rarely do anything in their room but sleep. There are many moderate priced hotels that are great.

You obviously grow your own money...

(sorry if that sounds rude, I just don't get it at all)

Fabrizio2---That neighborhood is absolutely wonderful. I stayed there (the Rue du Faubourg/Saint Honore area). You'll love it. Great cafes, bistros and "boulangeries." The Metro station right at the Arc de Triumph is one of the major hubs in Paris. You can basically get anywhere you want from there.

We stayed at the Best Western Saint-Honore right on Rue du Faubourg and it's less than you're paying, but the suites were VERY nice. You'd love it.

Here's a link if you want to check out where we stayed. I would highly recommend it. The suites were big and gorgeous.

Next time, Elph, we'll rent an apartment... but there's something to be said for room service and maid service. Maybe it's not worth the dough, ultimately, but I felt "taken care of" and was glad to pay for it while in Paris.

But I didn't pay nearly as much as Fabrizio2... and I must say, that's a rather high rate for off-season. Must be the "luxury" part.

Our hotel was no slouch though!

Fabrizio2---If you've never been to Paris, prepair to fall in love. It will catch you off guard. At first you'll say, "well, this is nice and all..." and by the end of your visit, you will be IN LOVE. Get ready for it!

EDIT: Okay, more... Right next to our hotel is the BEST Italian restaurant you'll find. Cheap, fast, and better than any restaurant we ate at in ROME. No joke. There's also a boulangerie right up the street called "Mi Do Re" that has excellent breakfast stuff, with a nice cordial staff, and GOOD EATS. A great place to stop in the morning before you hit the Metro to "points beyond."

Thanks so much best12...

I have been to Paris three times before...once with my french class and twice with my mother on business. We usually stay at the Plaza Athenee, but we wanted a nice change of pace and found a great plane fare on Air France going out of Atlanta.

I do LOVE Paris. It is truly one of the most amazing cities in the world.

Have a great flight on Air France. They're known for losing luggage, you know.

All three times I have flown with them they have never lost my luggage.

Besides I need someone with better credits to tell me that.

I wont be inside the luggage. I will be in L'Espace Premier on my Boeing 767 to Paris, France, where I will be met by a private chauffeur and taken to my Emile Wolfe suite at the Hotel Lancaster.

Exactly, but what difference does that make? I spend it.

I'm ignoring you now. Just like Marie Antoinette did to Madame du Barry. I just won't acknowledge you.

(I'm reading Antonia Fraser's Marie Antoinette's biography)

Elphaba, I am writing a term paper on Antoinette. I also have the Lever bio, but I have not started it yet. I have also read some of Mme Campan's bio as well. All very interesting.

I think that anyone who judges MA by her quote of "Let them eat cake" to say that she is a dumb queen is completely uneducated.
