By the way if anyone would like to proofread my paper for me let me know!!
Fab, better do some more research....she never said "let them eat cake."
from Snopes.com
Our language is replete with famous phrases from historic and literary characters who never uttered the words attributed to them: Marie Antoinette and "Let them eat cake.
I suggest that if you are writing a paper that says she DID say those words, expect a bad grade.
Also, she was a minor princess from a major Royal House. She was not bright, and was selected as it was thought she would be obedient. And Maria Theresa could think of nothing better for her, she went.
Were she not the Queen of France at the time of the revolution, she would not have made a dent in history......

"You mean your PARENTS have money. You don't."
"Exactly, but what difference does that make? I spend it."
Wow.
lol DG......with that attitude I am imagining the shack he'll be able to afford in Paris when he goes on his own in 2020.
Interesting that he says "he" found a good rate...when it's Mommy and Daddy who found it.
I just love teenage snobs, don't you? Especially when they can't see the difference between hard working people, and a spoiled teenage brat.

Well, Fabrizio is hardly the only person on the planet with money. I have found I'm much more comfortable around people of means who accept and see it for the blessing it is, rather than those in whom it has bred a sense of entitlement and elitism.
I hope they have a good time, and I hope Fab always has that capability. Although, I have to admit to some mild curiosity as to what would happen should those means not be available at some point . . .
Here's a review from tripadvisor.com. Sounds like your mom would be better off with another 5 star.
My parents took me to a few magnificent hotels during the brief period when my father had money. Then my mother and he died a few years later.
Your mother will be dead someday too. We all die, and usually our parents die before we do. I cherish the memory of those vacations. I wouldn't have wanted to waste them on someplace like the Lancaster.
Have a great trip.

Paris: Hotel Lancaster: "Arrogant Faded Glory!"
Oct 10, 2006 Savant66, London, England
If you are seeking extreme Parisian arrogance with an inflated sense of self importance, trading off past glories....welcome to The Lancaster!
Unfortunately the past negative reviews are all true! especially "Rude snobbish staff" and "17th century rooms at 21st century prices"
I was prepared to overlook the tired decor of the "Prestige" room, the 30 year old lighting and a television worthy of a road-side motel. I was even prepared to overlook the poor quality and expensive (30 euros) wireless internet and the cigarette burns on the furniture. However, the behaviour of the Matre'D and her staff in the restaurant was unforgiveable.
My wife and I decided to enjoy a pre-dinner drink in the very stylish lobby bar and outdoor garden. (All the investment is clearly spent on the lobby and nothing on the rooms). During our time in the bar a waiter asked if we would like to dine at their restaurant....we asked for a menu, which was delivered. Five minutes later, the same waiter emerged to advise that the restaurant was full and they would let us know if they had a cancellation. Five minutes after that the waiter asked for our room number and indicated that we could have a table. Eventually a very arrogant woman, who I assumed was the Maitre'D, emerged to tell us they were full and that we could not dine at the hotel. I have no idea why they started this process other than to indulge in some pathetic display of arrogance and predjudice. I can only assume that when they checked our reservation, they determined that we were staying on a heavily discounted promotional rate and were not worthy of their temple of gastronomy!
What an unpleasant experience. Unless you want to pay three times the price than is neccesary for a room that is desperately in need of renovation, then I would strong advise you to look elsewhere. However, if you gain some pleasure in being treated as a second class citizen by arrogant and self-important restaurant staff, then this is place to come!
The Lancaster has had its time in the sun and its glory days are well over...
Hotel Lancaster: Traveler Reviews
well said DG...and I agree.
My father was born dirt poor, and my mother was born into new money (her father was one of the people who invested in, and made a fortune on cigarette vending machines in the 1920's).
But she was taught the value of a dollar by her family, as were her children.
We never were in need of anything, but my parents were never frivolous with their money.
Having money never affected me, my sister, or my brother.
I hope, in time that Fab one day learns that no one is entitled to anything, other than the chance to make something out of their lives...
and Joey, LOVE the review.

"If you are seeking extreme Parisian arrogance with an inflated sense of self importance"
I thought perhaps this was the reason Fab was so looking forward to it . . .
wow. SURPRISE. another Fabrizio thread has turned into a giant argument.
woohoo!
I should point out that my favorite memories of hotel stays with my parents were at Holiday Inns and other inexpensive places like that during family weekends for weddings or bar mitzvahs, when we would all just hang around and catch up.
"Exactly, but what difference does that make? I spend it."
(THAT says volumes)
the difference Fab, you little spoiled child is that SHE earned it....but you go ahead and assume your Paris Hilton role, which you seem to cherish.....
One of these days it'll comeback and smack you silly......as life tends to do that.

I wasn't intending for you to take what I said seriously... I don't see why you just go ahead and assume things about someone you don't know.
In fact, I did find the rate myself. I always book the trips for my family because travel is a great passion of mine, and Elphaba I have noticed that it is a passion of yours as well, Elphaba.
However if you are going to put down someone for their choice of hotel or a sarcastic remark made after your bickering about how 350,00 Euro was not a good rate...I refuse to listen to you, because I am allowed to make my own choices in MY life, and not those of a middle aged man who happens to post on a common interest message board.
Secondly I don't need critisism for an assumption you have made about the way I live my life. Although I currently am a high school student living with my parents at the time, who I admit does eat and live off of my parents money, I know how to appreciate things and I am very grateful for the fortune that I live off of.
Thanks.
first of all, it's spelled "criticism".
and this comment
"Exactly, but what difference does that make? I spend it."
certainly shows that you are NOT appreciative, and NOT very grateful...rather that you expect it and feel as if it is owed to you.
And I would even go as far as to question your mother and fathers parenting skills if they allow a 16yr old to choose a hotel for $408 a night.
And, frankly this middle-aged man could care less if the young pup listens, but you will be given opinions all your life, and will also receive criticism all your life....so I strongly suggest that rather than say "I refuse to listen" (which ranks right up there with 'We are not amused' and 'Off with her Head' and various other imperious comments) that you DO listen to how you come off to others.
Maybe you will learn something.
AND, lastly, if you do NOT want people to take what you say seriously, then be smart enough to NOT say it......that's just common sense. And....a 16yr old should know that by now!

I admit I could have said some things different.
and I admit, I could have said things in a nicer tone, ie a different way.....
Are you still going to stay at the Lancaster?

I clicked on that link and the average rating of the hotel was a 4/5. I am still going to stay there.

By the way, in the midst of all this I ment to correct myself and say that Marie Antoinette might have not said Let them eat cake, and it wasn't even that. It was Let them eat brioche.
uh, no.....they do not know her exact words....but they think it was a question....on the lines of "don't they have bread?" Like not understanding the situation and enquiring if they had access to bread, which of course they did not.
Let us know if it's better than the George V.
A couple of thoughts...
I don't mind Fabrizio2 having rich parents. Good for him! I don't hate him for it. And I don't see him being snobbish here at all. He stated the facts, and didn't apologize for his parents "status." Bravo.
I see a lot of jealousy and childish reactions, though. If you have problem with his parents' financial situation, and Fabrizio2's chance to enjoy it... that is YOUR PROBLEM... not his.
I hope you enjoy your stay, Fabrizio2!
Also... The quote about Marie Antoinette... it's worse than you think... She DID say, "Let them eat cake!" contrary to most modern ideology who dismisses this quote.
But she didn't mean what you think she meant. "Cake" was also a common term used for manure which had hardened and was used as a poor man's kindling for a fireplace.
She meant, "If they don't have bread, let them eat cow sh*t."
No joke.
Do your research, people, and you'll see that this was a horribly derogatory "joke" on Marie's behalf. Not so very clueless, and not so very funny, either.
and NOT true best, please provide your documented source, and I will believe it. Snopes IS documented......so methinks I'll believe them. And....she was definately NOT bright enough to even formulate a joke like that.
Again, she was an unintelligent, minor Archduchess whose education was left to a nanny that spoiled her more than she tried to have her educated.....
Had she had any modicrum of intelligence, she probably could have used her influence to possibly attempt to change things.
She was unintelligent, uninspired, uninformed and again, had she not been be-headed would have barely left a mark in history.
You go ahead and think all you want that she said 'Let them eat Cake", but you will not find any documented, verifiable source that will substantiate that. It is simply an urban myth.
No one made comments about his rich parents. I DID make comments to his lack of respect for money, and especially money earned by someone else, that he feels he has the royal right to waste.
I have known too many people brought up like that and frankly, later in life they were not very nice people.
It is always good to learn the value of money at a young age, and the way to NOT do that is to spout this line (which he did.
"Exactly, but what difference does that make? I spend it."
If I had ever, EVER said something like that my parents would have let me know immediately that it was inappropriate to do so.
No one here is jealous......what we are, I believe is concerned about his lack of respect for money.
NOT my problem at all.....

"I admit I could have said some things different."
Since Fab himself admits that his choice of words might have been misleading, perhaps we weren't too off the mark in our reactions. If he says that doesn't truly reflect his attitude, so be it. The only thing we have to go on are his words, and he can have the benefit of the doubt here.
I do wish, however, that he had said things differentLY
and on that note, I am done with this thread.....
and in addition, I hope they have a great time in Paris!
