How about the classic -

Billy, don't be a hero, don't be a fool with your life
Billy, don't be a hero, come back and make me your wife
And as he started to go she said, Billy, keep your head low
Billy, don't be a hero, come back to me

Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods had the prominent version of this song, but our friends Paper Lace ("The Night Chaicago Died") had a version, too.

Footsie..was that the one that you put around your ankle and there was a string with a plastic bell thingy nattached and you jumped over it? I had one of those....getting exercise and NOT even knowing it..those were the days. Now I know why I was skinny back then.

Bo Donaldson's version of Billy was so much better..I hate the one they put on the Soundtrack of "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert".

And do we all recall this one:

"I remember to this day the bright red Georgia clay,
How it stuck to the tires after the summer rain.
Will power made that old car go; a woman's mind told me that it's so.
Oh, how I wish we were back on the road again.

Me and you and a dog named Boo,
Travellin' and livin' off the land.
Me and you and a dog named Boo,
How I love bein' a free man".

Who had a puka shell necklace? Still have it, although it doesn't fit my neck anymore. They must shrink with age!

A Pet rock? Yep

A Mood ring? Yep

Shag carpeting? My parents just got rid of their 1971 green and blue three inch shag six months ago. Damned stuff was indestrucable.

Olive green and gold home decor? We had harvest gold. We still have a coppertone refrigerator in the basement that works.

A Leisure Suit? (UMMM, doubleknit polyester) Never had the suit, but did have the unbelted pants and a Quiana nylon shirt

Neato, SOMMS. Your home was as groovy as mine was!

- And now a little Melanie to brighten up our day:

"I rode my bicycle past your window last night
I roller skated to your door at daylight
It almost seems like you're avoiding me
I'm okay alone, but you got something I need

Well, I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key
I think that we should get together and try them out you see
I been looking around awhile
You got something for me
Oh! I got a brand new pair of roller skates
You got a brand new key"

This one goes out to Rath -

Last night I had a crazy dream
About a chick in a black bikini
Oh she looked so good she couldn't be real
So she must be a magic genie
But then she disappeared around a corner
All I saw were three doors and the top of her bikini
I made it through the first door there was a party going on
I asked about the chick but what they said was this

REFRAIN
Chick-a-boom chick-a-boom don't ya jes' love it
Chick-a-boom chick-a-boom don't ya jes' love it
Chick-a-boom chick-a-boom don't ya jes' love it
Chick-a-boom chick-a-boom-boom-boom

Bingo, Boobs - it was Lobo! 2 more points for you. Now here's your long distance dedication.

Dear Casey,

Boobs lives so far away...can you please play that great country classic by Lynn Anderson for me and send it out to Boobs?

Your friend,
Jungle

Jungle, here's your special song just for Boobs:

"I beg your pardon
I never promised you a rose garden
Along with the sunshine
There's gotta be a little rain some time

When you take you gotta give so live and let live
Or let go oh whoa whoa whoa
I beg your pardon
I never promised you a rose garden

I could promise you things like big diamond rings
But you don't find roses growin' on stalks of clover
So you better think it over
Well if sweet talkin' you could make it come true
I would give you the world right now on a silver platter
But what would it matter

So smile for a while and let's be jolly
Love shouldn't be so melancholy
Come along and share the good times while we can

I beg your pardon
I never promised you a rose garden
Along with the sunshine
There's gotta be a little rain some time

I beg your pardon
I never promised you a rose garden

I could sing you a tune and promise you the moon
But if that's what it takes to hold you
I'd just as soon let you go
But there's one thing I want you to know

You better look before you leap, still waters run deep
And there won't always be someone there to pull you out
And you know what I'm talkin' about
So smile for a while and let's be jolly
Love shouldn't be so melancholy
Come along and share the good times while we can

I beg your pardon
I never promised you a rose garden
Along with the sunshine
There's gotta be a little rain some time

I'm glad yall enjoyed your early 70s long distance dedications. I've got to scoot out of here now but I'll leave you with a little inspirational song -

Peace and love!
Jungle

"Jeremiah was a bullfrog,
Was a good friend of mine.
Never understood a single word he said,
But I helped him a-drinkin' his wine.
Yes, he always had some mighty fine wine.

Singing joy to the world
All the boys and girls now
Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea,
Joy to you and me.

If I were the king of the world,
Tell you what I'd do.
Throw away the cars and the bars and the wars,
And make sweet love to you.
Yes, I'll make sweet love to you.

Singing joy to the world
All the boys and girls now
Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea,
Joy to you and me.

You know I love the ladies,
Love to have my fun.
I'm a high night flyer and a rainbow rider,
A straight shootin' son of a gun.
Yes a straight shootin' son of a gun.

Singing joy to the world
All the boys and girls now
Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea,
Joy to you and me.

Joy to the world
All the boys and girls
Joy to the world
Joy to you and me.
Joy to the world
All the boys and girls
Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea,
Joy to you and me.

ON THE FIRST PART OF THE JOURNEY
I WAS LOOKING AT ALL THE LIFE
THERE WERE PLANTS AND BIRDS AND ROCKS AND THINGS
THERE WAS SAND AND HILLS AND RINGS

THE FIRST THING I MET WAS A FLY WITH A BUZZ
AND THE SKY WITH NO CLOUDS
THE HEAT WAS HOT AND THE GROUND WAS DRY
BUT THE AIR WAS FULL OF SOUND

YOU SEE
I'VE BEEN THROUGH THE DESERT ON A HORSE WITH NO NAME
IT FELT GOOD TO BE OUT OF THE RAIN
IN THE DESERT YOU CAN REMEMBER YOUR NAME
'CAUSE THERE AIN'T NO ONE FOR TO GIVE YOU NO PAIN
LA LA LA LA .....

AFTER TWO DAYS IN THE DESERT SUN
MY SKIN BEGAN TO TURN RED
AFTER THREE DAYS IN THE DESERT FUN
I WAS LOOKING AT THE RIVER BED
AND THE STORY IT TOLD OF A RIVER THAT FLOWED
MADE ME SAD TO THINK IT WAS DEAD

AFTER NINE DAYS I LET THE HORSE RUN FREE
'CAUSE THE DESERT HAD TURNED TO SEA
THERE WERE PLANTS AND BIRDS AND ROCKS AND THINGS
THERE WAS SAND AND HILLS AND RINGS
THE OCEAN IS A DESERT WITH ITS LIFE UNDERGROUND
AND A PERFECT DISGUISE ABOVE
UNDER THE CITIES LIES A HEART MADE OF GROUND
BUT THE HUMANS WILL GIVE NO LOVE
