My favorite one hit wonder song from the '70s is "The Night Chicago Died" Who remembers that? That song used to freak me out with the creepy lyrics. Who performed it?
From my Home State..I should've known that Jungle. *slaps self*
Midtown - Paper Lace - I had it on 45!
"Daddy was a cop..."

Middy..I still have the 45 to that too...I saved all my 45's !!!
LOVE that song, Midtown!!!
The one that scared the crap out of me was "They're coming to take me away, haha, they're coming to take me away, heehee, hoho, haha, to the funny farm, where life is wonderful all the time, and I'll be happy to see the nice young men in their clean white shirts..." of course my creepy uncle had the 45 of that.
So do I Rath ...so do I. Hahahhehe hoho
*shudders*
ahhh, good ol' napoleon the xiv. my brother used to sing that one constantly, rath.
I can picture Papa humming that song now.
That was also creepy. But the one that gave me nightmares was 'Eleanor Rigby', although hardly from one-hit wonders! It came out when we were all wee-kiddies. 'Father Mckenzie wiping the dirt from his hands as he walks from the grave.' I used to listen to my older brothers 45 when he wasn't home and was terrified by that line.
Yeah, Eleanor Rigby creeped me out a bit too...a couple of Beatles songs creeped me out.
How about..."And When I Die" by Blood,Sweat,& Tears...nice thought.
double post..ugh.
Midtown- I saw Paul McCartney sing Eleanor Rigby in concert a couple of years ago and it gave me chills. "Look at all the lonely people....where do they all come from...". Poignant lyrics.
Boobs, I prefer "You've Made Me So Very Happy" by Blood, Sweat, and Tears or maybe "Spinning Wheel". "Spinning Wheel" was playing on the radio as I rode the bus on my first day of school after we moved to Georgia. I was entering second grade. Isn't it wild the things one remembers?! I never liked Blood Sweat and Tears. I didn't like the lead singer's voice at all.
Rath, Did you prefer the sweet sounds of young Donny Osmond warbling "Go Away Little Girl"? (wink)
Kinda. I actually thought Michael Jackson was a much better singer - he was, then.
Jungle...I agree those other Blood, Sweat, and Tears songs I like better..just that And When I Die..I found spooky.
re: the night chi-town died...one of the 1st 45s i bought...the true first 45 is hard to admit... Updated On: 1/25/05 at 03:48 PM
I think my first 45 was You're No Good. My second - so bongoboy, you won't feel so bad and will maybe fess up - was Clap For the Wolfman.
I loved "Rockin' Robin", "I Want You Back", "ABC" and all the Jackson 5's early stuff. Poor Michael is an American tragedy. Donny,on the other hand, has held it together. Joseph, Pyramid, and he still has an active recording career. He does an excellent cover of the old Bacharach tune (popularized by Herb Alpert) "This Guy's In Love With You" on his new CD. I think he had a top ten in the UK last year with "Breeze on By".
Yes, Donny did end up a much healthier person, that's for sure. But remember how Michael just belted out the pop? He was so great as a kid.
Anyone else remember their first glimpse of Marie Osmond singing Paper Roses on TV?
"Lovin you, is easy cause you're beautiful
..and every time that we...oooh...I'm more in love with you.
la la la la la

la la la la laahhh la la la la la
doo doo doo doo doo dwee doo
AAAAHHHH AHHHHH AHHHHH AHHHHH AHHHHH!!!!!!
Rath, Linda Ronstadt was THE BOMB in the 70s. I loved "You're No Good". Her cover of "Heat Wave" rocked my world.
