Awww, that's not embarrassing, bongoboy!! I had that one too. And I could hit those notes!
jungle, eventually I had many more of Linda's 45's in my collection. Other favorites were Delta Dawn (Helen Reddy), and Deep Purple by Donny and Marie.
Gotta run gang..more reminicing later. But before I go I think my first 45..which I still have is...I Want To Hold Your Hand by still my favorite group...The Beatles. *screams*
Bongo - Minnie Ripperton - she could flat out - sing!
Rath - I met Marie Osmond in Orlando at The Flying Fish Cafe (at Disney's Boardwalk Resort). She's seems like she is a very nice lady. - And I remember when she was a little bit country and when Donny wore purple socks!
Boobs - Love the Beatles, especially Paul - have seen him in concert 4 times. He is the real deal.
I gotta run, too, folks. I love this thread. Keep it alive!
That was Minnie Ripperton??? Sheesh...I don't remember that. Gotta run too...see ya later!
Yes, Minnie Riperton - mother of Maya Rudolph.
jungle - My parents used to visit Silver Springs when they lived in Florida. We used to visit a similar place in Texas called Aquarena Springs. I loved the glass-bottom boats (would like to see the movie Glass Bottom Boat again as well) and the mermaid theatre (aka underwater ballet). There was also a famous high-diving swimming pig there that appeared on To Tell the Truth. I think his name was Ralph. After the animal rights activists shut down the dancing and tic-tac-toeing chickens, the place started going downhill until it was a dump. The last I heard, a local university took over the site. It's a shame because it was once a really beautiful place. The movie Piranha was filmed there.
rath - Delta Dawn brings back so many good memories for me. The one song that always creeped me out was Bridge Over Troubled Water, but I didn't exactly why because I was really young when my mom used to play it. My mother recently told me it probably upset me because she played it a lot when my dad almost died and I probably picked up on her emotions and associated the song with that. Isn't it strange how songs can trigger such vivid emotions and memories?
I love this thread. I had a particularly awful weekend and needed a serious lift. This thread helped loads.
mister matt..
your ref to bridge over troubled water brings me back to the question that started this thread...
my brother and i made up a game that we called "bridge over troubled water", where we pushed our 2 single beds together. one of us would lay across the beds, from 1 to the other making the bridge. then whoever wasn't the bridge had to walk or crawl across. the object was to keep pulling the beds farther and farther apart while the other "crawled" across. who ever collapsed 1st, lost.
don't know if i described this clearly enough...but i'm in a rush...
major fun!!!

I was born in 1980, and I remember so much of what's just been discussed. Much of this was thanks to my mom. We didn't get cable till 1990, but even then I only watched like, 4 extra channels. I miss the simple days too...I'm always so nostalgic and hardly ever up on current trends or technology. I miss board games like mad. No one will play them with me!
I'm just sayin'!
Well, then you can come to the party I'm apparently hosting at Boobs' house!
I'll be singing Minnie Riperton on the drive home now!

I was sick for a week in 1974 and FORCED my father (as much as a father can be forced) to buy the new Stones album--'Its Only Rock n' Roll.' Mostly because i was trying to be the coolest kid on my block but also because i knew it would embarrass my dad to have to purchase it.

I was born in 1957 and I can relate to this thread. We actually thrived on not having computers, microwaves, cell phone, TIVO, IPods and DVDS. My toys and games were the best. I had Candyland, Chutes and Ladders, SillyPutty, Legos, Barbie, Slinky, and of course my Flexable Flyer. My cousin had Mystery Date and for some reason I always wound up with the nerdy Poindexter! We didnt have " playdates" then You just hung out with the neighborhood kids and played kickball, flew kites and went fishing. I miss those days.
Yenta, my neighbor had Mystery Date and I always got the dud! Stupid game was fixed.
And I had to steal my sisters Barbies and nail polish. Man were things backwards for us Rath.
You might be surprised to know that I loved playing with dolls and nail polish and all that girly stuff too.
my sister had the donny and marie dolls...until she painted my superman's nails and i was forced to retaliate by melting donnies head. years later i actually met him at grand central station and apologized for it...he had the same look in his eyes as the doll did just before the face collapsed into a puddle of molten plastic and he backed away slowly.
Papa...I guess Donny didn't tell you that you were Sweet and Innocent.
Speaking of Mormons..where is Beacon..she can tell us some of her growing up stories before she became a stalker.
You! Get to the store! Reminisce later!

We need to do a movie night too....let's start picking what movies we want to watch. "To Sir With Love" is a must !!!!
Oh, jeez. I was never big on movies. I'm still not. The Gidget movies with James Darren have to be included. I loved my Moondoggie!

Those schoolgirl days
Of telling tales and biting nails are gone
But in my mind
I know they will still live on and on
But how do you thank someone
who has taken you from crayons to perfume
It isn't easy but I'll try
If you wanted the sky I would write across the sky
in letters that would soar a thousand feet high
To Sir with love.
The time has come
for closing books and long last looks must end
And as I leave
I know that I am leaving my best friend
A friend who taught me right from wrong
and weak from strong
That's a lot to learn.
What, what can I give you in return
If you wanted the moon I would try to make a start but I would rather you let me give my heart
To Sir with love.
