How Do You Keep Yourself Preoccupied While Flying?

They have onboard games where you can play against other people on the plane and they also have tons of great movies. Also, when I went on a school trip to Rome, all 12 of us got up and just congregated in one area and talked, nobody complained so that was the way that we passed our 6 hours haha.

I typically fly JetBlue and they have DirectTV at every seat which makes my life very comfortable.
If I am forced to fly some other airline, I typically take a fluffy novel and some magazines. Taking the laptop and getting some writing done is always an appealing option, but I never remove it from the bag.

I usually amuse myself with the crappy 4 inch tv screen infront of me, a book and my ipod, or I spend a good 3 hours attempting to sleep (which I never can do on a plane, without pills...). My mother still insists that I fly as a UM if I'm alone, so I'm usually sat next to some deranged 12 year old who attempts to be cool, that I want to shoot, especially if they are from the destination I typically will be getting off at when I fly alone. Movie marathons... despite the usually decent selections of movies... I'll watch the same one over and over and over again. 23 hours on a plane ain't fun. Oh and I love when the flight attendants are all confused as to where the UM is, and then figure out it's me... I come off as a heck of a lot older...
If it's a short flight... I'll get some trashy magazines and lots of gum.

Posted: 4/22/06 at 12:33pmI'm addicted to crossword puzzles, so that's usually how I spend my time. I tend to buy every newspaper in the airport, do all the crosswords, then read if there's still time. I'm a very uneasy flier, though. I've never had a bad experience with flying, but I have nightmares about it all the time.

I just think about how cool it is to DEFY GRAVITY and that keeps me happy for a long while

I have a 10 hour bus ride this week to VA... I plan on talking to friends, listening to music, reading and doing homework... I'm not really looking forward to it, to be honest. I can never sleep on buses or planes so I'm screwed...

Posted: 4/22/06 at 1:29pmI actually hate flying...but do it every year when I come to NYC. I always buy some new crossword puzzle books and spend my time doing that. I also like to do the crossword that is in the airline magazine at your seat. Usually someone else on an earlier flight has started it, so it is fun to correct their mistakes and try and finish it.

Ambien.
For short flights, I read trashy magazines that I otherwise wouldn't be caught with (*cough*tabloids*cough*), listen to my ipod, and/or knit.
Yes, knitting needles are ok by the TSA rules. But always bring an envelope with postage with you in case a screener doesn't know the current rules or doesn't like your project (ie small bamboo needles are ok, large metal ones aren't).
