I think about how my family would make it if our house was flooded and we sat on our roof in Chicago looking for help! This is why I am so angry! Would the government igore us? Well, I guess Mr. Bush would!

Wrong, papa. Witt was raised by Clinton to a Cabinet-level position. Call it Secretary of Emergency Management or what have you, but he was a member of the Cabinet just like the people in charge of State, Interior, etc.

papa - you KNOW what she meant re: how a leader should behave... That's why she carefully described it as 'cabinet level PROMINENCE'. You just like pushing PLUMS buttons - and do NOT go there!

Witt was raised to the status of member of the cabinet in 1996. Thanks to the wonders of the Internets, you can look it up. Or hey! I can show you the link I already looked up, because I'm just that cool.

ETA- FEMA's website says the same thing.

You're too sensible, I'm afraid. I need awe-inspiring stupidity mixed in with a dash of willful ignorance to really get me going. It helps if you call me names for no apparent reason.

I don't consider pointing out the hideous reality of what's going on in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to be "Bush bashing."

It's obviously not all his fault, but I find it hard to believe that anyone without an ideological axe to grind, would deny the response has been inadequate.

Yesterday a KFI AM 640 show interviewed the head of FEMA for the area of Los Angeles and she came across as a total idiot. The hosts then spent the rest of the time stating how much of an idiot she is and how corrupt and disgracful our government is on all levels and how we should just go NOW and buy sheds and fill them up with disaster suplies because God help us if we are struck with an earthquake or something equally as devistating - we will be on our own!
I really wish I didn't beleive them so much... very sad.

From a press release LA Senator Mary Landrieu sent out today:

But perhaps the greatest disappointment stands at the breached 17th Street levee. Touring this critical site yesterday with the President, I saw what I believed to be a real and significant effort to get a handle on a major cause of this catastrophe. Flying over this critical spot again this morning, less than 24 hours later, it became apparent that yesterday we witnessed a hastily prepared stage set for a Presidential photo opportunity; and the desperately needed resources we saw were this morning reduced to a single, lonely piece of equipment. The good and decent people of southeast Louisiana and the Gulf Coast - black and white, rich and poor, young and old - deserve far better from their national government.

She's the one who was thanking her fellow politicians and spewing cliches left and right a couple of days ago and was subject to a rant from Anderson Cooper. The Dems have held off on criticizing Bush a lot because everyone seems to be coming to the same conclusion about the administration's efforts anyway, but I wonder how long that will last.

Let's face it everyone - this is only another step in armaggedon. Seriously - what's happening in New Orleans is beyond awful, and Bush has done little to nothing to alleviate the situation. I was on vacation this past week in Vegas with a couple of friends but had CNN on in the room all the time, and it was constantly on in the poker room where I spent most of my time. I started talking about it with one of my friends and she said "I'm on vacation, this doesn't affect me now, I don't care." I was appalled, but her view quickly changed when we called home and found out how much gas was. My point here is that this has HUGE ramifications across the country. Rising gas prices, in large part due to Bush's failure to provide the necessary precautionary measures, are going to lead to riots -- I guarantee it. Think about it - soon enough, people are not going to be able to go anywhere because they simply can't afford it. Lock people up, restrict our freedom - and chaos ensues. This is NOT the end -- this is only the beginning.

I am truly frightened for what's going to happen in this country in the next couple of months.

Were there actual riots about gas prices in the 70's? I'm fairly ignorant about that part of history.
