He's wrapping up his time on The Daily Show this week. Normally I'm more of a fan of Colbert, but I thought Oliver was very funny. Excited to see more from him in the future.
I thought Oliver was a breath of fresh air. I've been bored with Jon Stewart for a while. I hope Stewart hasn't set himself up for his audience's seeing him as a step backwards to the same old schtick we were getting tired of when he returns.
I agree that Colbert is the best of the three.
I thought he did great! I loved his take on things and he was very funny.
I thought Colbert long surpassed Stewart, who has kind of become the surly, 'Ugh this crap again' kind of grouch in his approach to things on the show (I think his comments after the Rally for Sanity at DC showed somebody who had grown tired of calling out people). I used to just think it was because it was due to a bereft of finding the fresh young correspondents (though Jessica Williams has grown on me a lot) but Oliver really added a lot. It could be because him being British is a specific kind of humor but it really added an improved energy to the show. I hope he gets his own show.
Who knows about Jon returning. He was directing a serious drama feature film that was his reason for his absence.
I also liked the fact that Mr. Oliver got upset over some of the same things I get upset over.
Mr. Stewart does have that grumbly/grouchy aspect to him.

I don't mind Stewart's grumbly/grouchy shtick so much, but what I do mind is his blatant ambivalence, which shows up way too often, especially during interviews. He needs to stay engaged with some sort of reaction. "Checking out" is not an option if you want to stay on the air.
Colbert is still my favorite by far.
But I thought John Oliver did a great job. He not only held is own, but in many cases surpassed Jon Stewart. I hope he fills in again soon or perhaps even gets his own show. He's certainly good enough.
I thought Oliver was exceptional.
I'd love to see him gain his own permanent show.
