Hey y'all.
I'm revamping my audition book in time for high school, and I was wondering...how is YOUR audition book organized? What 'bases' do you cover in terms of song types? How many songs do you have? Any information you'd be willing to share would be lovely!

I have 8 genres- the list is
classic ballad, uptempo
contempory ballad, uptempo
rock/pop ballad, uptempo
grand songs
comedy songs
I have about 2-3 numbers in each one, so I have about 20 songs in my audition book. I find this helps me sing the proper style they are looking for.

I have it divided first by Classical and Musical Theatre.
In Classical, it is organized by time period
In Musical Theatre, it is first organized by Classical genre then Contemporary genre. Then in that it is between Up-tempo and Ballad.
If I have audition I will decide what I am going to sing and then move it to the front and in its own tab, so there is no confusion for the accompanist as to what I am singing.

Posted: 8/14/06 at 7:21pmI have everything digitally organized. (I buy most of my music, from musicnotes.com. And pair it with karaoke or backing tracks to practice with, or use if no accompanist is provided.) I do it by style. Golden Age, Rock, Pop, Jazz. Misc. (POTO,Evita,Spamolot, LITP, and YAGMCB are in there.)

They're fairly old and I don't want to put a hole puncher through them so they're in hole punched folders labeled either musical theater, classical, or pop. The other 5% is my own, usually purchased from musicnotes.com. There's also scans from song books.
"Interesting choice"

Posted: 8/15/06 at 3:03pmMy songs are a mess. I don't have them grouped into anything, but my monologues are organized into Comedic, Dramatic, Classic and I have a star next to the ones that are best for me.
