No.
Tell her New York chews people like her up and spits them out onto subway tracks.
If she thinks I'm being melodramatic, she should read CubanPab's thread.

She can go see In The Heights and then see the heights.
Anyway, it's ALL about how she would spend that money. If it's to see every show on Broadway and/or eat out alot and/or go partying a lot, then it won't last a month.
But, if she can keep the living expenses down and balance free/cheap activities with cheap theatre tickets as much as possible, she should be good.

OP, tell your friend to bring a journal with her and record what she does every day and what money she spends on what.
then when she comes back, you can post it in a thread. or you could post like one each day for a month. and we can see if she makes it 30 days in manhattan on 2000.
it would be very interesting and informative. there are apparently many who believe this can simply not be done. =]

Posted: 7/30/08 at 4:30pmI dont understand why she wants to do this? Why would you want to take a month long vacation, stay in some crappy place and be unable to do anything, see any shows, etc because you are on such a tight budget? If that was all the money I had, and it was one month or no trip, I would use it to splurge at home.

It's called a "Stay-cation." It's all the rage in the current economy.
You stay at home, relax and do all the things you never have time to do.

She should stay home then.
Suzie would probably say, "Denied! You! Can not! Afford it!"

Posted: 7/30/08 at 4:46pmMy opinion is that $2000 is not enough money to enjoy a vacation in Manhattan no matter where she stays for two months.

Posted: 7/30/08 at 4:50pmI mean, why bother if you have to scrimp on food and only eat cereal, stay in some dump, watch each penny you spend, you get my drift. How is that a vacation? I agree with those who said stay home in your air conditioning, buy an expensive steak, and watch some dvds or tv.

Posted: 7/30/08 at 4:52pmI've known Raquela since the third grade...If anyone can do it, she can...She is the brave one. She has money, so if it cost a little more then 2000 dollars, it's fine...But her goal is 2000...

Posted: 7/30/08 at 4:53pmKristie, if you were any type of friend, you would submit your friend's picture to that style show with the fop and the big mouth Fran Drescher imitator. Then your friend could get a free trip to NYC plus $5,000 for clothes. Plus she could get a haircut by Nick and Carmindy could tell her she had beauitful eyes.

Well, I pay my rent, Con Ed, cell, TimeWarnerCable bills and eat nicely for under $2000 a month.
If she wants to stay for a month, she has to LIVE here for a month, not vacation. I live very well for under $2000 a month. And have a life. And see shows. And do fun things.

"You mean What Not to Wear?"
Yeah, I couldn't think of the name of it. Or fop and Fran's real names. Strange though that I could remember Nick and Carmindy.
