A blog would be pretty fun to follow. I think that means I need a life!
She just found...House of the Redeemer..(sounds scary)on east 95th street...anybody heard of it.
She used to be a good Catholic girl...and I am Catholic/Jew so we used to go to church together. She is first trying all religious places
"Staycation". Love that! I just started mine this week and it is going to last until the end of October!
Well, if the Sacred doesn't pan out she can try the Profane, offer services on Craig's list and make sure they are stay overs.
I agree with G,
Staycations are awesome. Only wish I had time for one of my own :-/ . If only we could beat the heat here in CO
well a blog is assuming she has internet access.
which, on a slim budget, i am doubting she will have.
do convents have free internet access? haha
Free internet at that Big Fabulous Library...
Raquela got the idea for 2000 dollars for a month in Manhattan, when my boyfriend & I went to Nyc in March for 5 days for 500 dollars each...that includes plane fight from Eugene Oregon to Nyc with one stop in Denver. The hotel was fine with shared bathroom. We were never in our room except to sleep and we had a wonderful time...Saw three shows, not included in the 500...
It can be done...I guess that is why we have been to Manhattan 5 times in 4 years...It has always been a wonderful experience for us.
I want her to wait until the winter so I can go with her...but I don't think see wants to wait...
I have learned so much about NYC because of Broadwayworld and I take notes on everything...

"She should ask Suzie Orman if she can afford it! Seriously!"
Jerby, I agree with you completely.
She was laid off from her job and before she starts looking for another one she want to visit NYC until her 2000 dollars runs out? Let me pull no punches and say that I think this is a very messed up way of thinking. To me at least, it's the same type of mentality that has people carrying 10 max-ed out credit cards and their homes in foreclosure. It's that desire for immediate gratification with no thought to their financial future. Of course I also don't understand the mindset that it's acceptable for a healthy adult to be a boyfriend's, or anyone else's, financial albatross.
I can understand wanting a trip to NYC while she has the time off work, but is there any reason why she couldn't do a week for around $500 the same way you did and still have money in the bank?
And if something sounds too good to be true...
Ever look at tripadvisor and read the horror stories of people stripped of their savings who find upon arrival in NYC that the illegal apartment, sublet, group home, etc. they booked in advance was nothing but a scam? If they're lucky they find an empty park bench for the night and awake with their return ticket still in their pocket.
I don't see anywhere on the House of the Redeemer website where an overnight accommodation, with shared bath and possibly no air conditioning, goes for less than $90 a night. And it seems that the cost for breakfast and a cheaper overnight rate of $70 is only for those on an actual authentic church related retreat. I would suspect that the rate is also subject to at least a 13% tax, the head tax, and possibly an energy tax if it's still applicable.
