How long has everyone been training?

Hey, I was just wondering how long everyone has been training in singing, dancing, and acting? And if anyone has real experience?

re: How long has everyone been training?

I went to a performing arts magnet high school for 4 years and trained in every aspect of theatre. I came out of it with a techie's mind. I'm starting my third year as a production major at FCLC with a concentration in Stage Management and I run the props shop.

re: How long has everyone been training?

What I mean by real is not high school productions. I have been training in voice for 5 years with the head of the Vocal Department at Juilliard. In dance for 3 years, acting for 6 years, and musical theatre workshops for 4 years. I was Young Cosette in the national tour of Les miz about 4 years ago, and I am currently a ballet understudy for phantom, so if some of the ballerinas can't be there, then I have to go on.

re: How long has everyone been training?

I've been taking professional voice lessons for eight years, probably around seven or six if you count the time between voice teachers.

I'm the youngest person in my school to have gotten a Superior Rating at State Solo and Ensemble.

I studied dance for a couple of years, and have taken a year of Drama. So my strength is in classical singing. Not so much Broadway anymore.

Yeah, they started getting younger people around 2 years ago as understudies, there is another girl in the chorus, permanatley, not understudy, and I think she is 18. I have only gone on twice though.

re: How long has everyone been training?

I started late. I was a figure skater for 6 years and my mother never let me take voice or anything until I quit. So I've been taking voice for about 2 and a half years, and acting for 2. While I skated I took a lot of dance classes, but I haven't gone back to them since.

re: How long has everyone been training?

I've never taken anything on a professional level yet, or stared in anything beyond a high school production. I've done theater worshops and camps for awhile, and am always part of school productions. I was just recently a set intern for a summer theater program. But I start my college drama class at the end of this month. Charles Repole is doing it, so I hope to learn lots.

re: How long has everyone been training?

I've been taking dance for 12 years, and I quit chorus from 8th grade up until this past year(junior year), but I guess I'm not too bad becuase I auditioned for and made Chamber Singers at my school which is kind of hard. I've never taken drama or acting classes, but I just got involved with my community theatre last year and was asked to audition for the adult shows as well so I guess I'm not horrible. I'm just hoping my lack of training won't be a huge problem for me for college because I want to go BFA Muscial Theatre, and I have hardly any experience compared to most people. I guess I won't be as nervous though in a way because it's not like I've been training my whole life or anything, I just recently fell in love with MT.

re: How long has everyone been training?

okay, i see what you mean by real experience...and judging by what you say, you have a lot of it.

mine is not as impressive:
i was ranked 2nd in a state-wide vocal competition, then second in a new-england wide one as well, sang in professional opera galas, am currently one of 7 finalists for a statewide music scholarship competition (i have the finals on tuesday!! *crosses fingers!*), and have taken master classes with dalton baldwin and lorraine nubar (born2c - if you're connected with juilliard you know them probably.)

dance-wise...i won a bunch of stuff when i was a competitive scottish highland dancer - but ballet? not so much. haha

re: How long has everyone been training?

I've been into acting/school shows/workshop at community theatre since about 2nd grade. Singing for a purpose starting in 5th grade. I'm in 11th and still going now....Musicals, plays, whatever. Although I've never had a voice lesson.
And the other thing about the Phantom Lady was, Bert, she realized, in the city that never sleeps... What did she realize, Kitten? That all the songs she'd listened to, all the love songs, that they were only songs. What's wrong with that? Nothing, if you don't believe in them. But she did, you see. She believed in enchanted evenings, and she believed that a small cloud passed overhead and cried down on a flower bed, and she even believed there was breakfast to be had... Where? On Pluto. The mysterious, icy wastes of Pluto.

born2c-if you are 17 now, you were around 13 when you played young Cosette in Les Miz?

re: How long has everyone been training?

I feel so deficient. Well, to put in more "professional" experience for me, at my camp our directors are accomplished actors who've been on Broadway or national tour. One of the former musical directors is currently playing in the pit for Altar Boyz.

re: How long has everyone been training?

Yes, I'm very petite. I looked around 10 at the time.

re: How long has everyone been training?

MFL, I feel deficient too. re: How long has everyone been training?

I've been singing for a year and a half and am starting college as a theatre major so I'll get lots of training there. I went from being a low low alto to a more lyrical soprano, and it isn't bad at all actually. I feel my best voice is in my upper register so its a wonder what voice lessons can do.

re: How long has everyone been training?

I'd say that they are a major help. I'm not sure if I believe people are born with a set range and its a matter of opening that range or if your range keeps growing with your progress in your voice but either way if you take lessons you will open up new places in your voice that you wouldn't ever expect to grow. If is so fun singing high A's and thinking back about how I couldn't even sing a B flat below that a year ago.

Oh, and yes my lessons are one on one. I've also taken a class where everyone in the class sits in while you sing too, but the that was an elective and my lessons I pay for are one on one.
