1 = no attention, I want to hide on my birthday
3 = s'ok if some folks know, but I don't make a big deal of it
5 = I want everyone to know, and I expect attention in equally exorbidant amounts from everyone.
How would you rate yourself--1, 3, 5, or somewhere in between?

I'm kind of a 5, and I feel ashamed saying that, lol. I tell everyone it's my birthday. I don't expect a bunch of attention, though.
That didn't make sense, did it? >.<

I don't know where I belong on the chart but if I don't get seven (7) distinct and separate threads on my birthday with my name in the title, there's hell to pay.
I'm a 0...I don't want people coming up to me all day telling me Happy Birthday...it's wierd getting so much attention.

I had a birthday a couple of months ago and told no one. I still got a few cards and presents and a couple of dinners from old friends who remembered, but otherwise I did no celebrating. A few years ago I had a mega-blowout party with 70 or 80 people, but after that I decided I didn't want that kind of fuss or attention ever again.
I guess a 3.
I had a big party for my 30th, and instead of fun it just seemed kind of awkward and self-serving. I've had lots of fun with all of those people both before and since, but something about having all of that attention focused on me made me want to shrink into the woodwork like a great shrinking....thing. Maybe by 40 I'll feel different, but in the meantime I'd appreciate as little fuss as possible.
I did find it heartening this past year when someone *coughpaljoeycough* started a birthday thread for me here. I was still relatively new to BWW, and being known enough to have a birthday thread started for me made me feel infinitely more welcome on this board. While I don't necessarily want the "fuss", I will forever feel grateful for being made to feel comfortable posting here.
I'm a 3, and Dabadoll expressed my own sentiments perfectly.
I've never had a "major fuss" -type party. Even when I was a kid, I think the worst/biggest bash I ever had was a dozen or so kids having cake & ice cream, wishing me well, etc. And it's been down-scaled from there, over the years.
Nowadays, if I go out to dinner with my honey, and maybe have a day-trip out of town for a pleasant, small "escape," I'm a perfectly happy guy.
I have a few close friends who throw themselves enormous, end-up-in-the-trade-papers (or even novels!), Hollywood ballyhoo, "theme" bashes. Those can be a ton of fun too, and I've even performed at them (when asked), but they're not for me personally.
I actually crooned the "Love Boat" theme song, combined with "The Morning After," one time (for one of my best friend's celebrity-filled birthday extravaganzas), dressed in a leopard fur, glitter-lapelled tuxedo jacket! Everyone showed up to the festivities as "their favorite Love Boat guest star." That was a hoot!
I can't see "me" throwing myself THAT kind of event/party, even though I enjoyed it (for someone else) quite a lot.

i only enjoy the attention if its from people i really like.
otherwise, i'd rather be left alone.

I'd go with 4. I want people to acknowledge it and wish me well, but I don't need to be spoiled (though it is nice if that just happens).
I'm fine with none, but I have some close friends and dear family who remember it anyway. If I get a little fuss, it's thrilling because I love these people. A little treat is fun - I'm always up for festivity. Any excuse for wine.
Edit - forgot to give a number - 3.
I am always the party thrower. I love to cook for parties and decorate, so whenever it is anyone else's birthday I am the one involved. Just once, I would like to be on the recieving end of that. I would love to have a surprise party, but it never happens. I would like a big deal to be made about my birthday, but I don't want to have to tell a lot of people.
I would say I'm a three or a four. All throughout my childhood I never had parties, and would normally just spend time with my family instead. Now, my idea of a perfect birthday is taking a few friends out to dinner and then a play or a concert.

yeah, I think I'm around the 3 range. I'd rather people not make a huge fuss, but I'd at least like some people to know about it, and wish me happy birthday.
My birthday just past about a week ago, and I was happy with the level of attention that I got. I didn't really do anything special that day - just went out to eat w/ my parents.

i'd say between a 3 and a 5
about a 4
i like attention on my birthday, and do appreciate if people remember it
but i know a lot of annoying people that are like "OMG! 24 days till my birthday!' and they tell everyone every day how many days till their birthday, and when it's their birthday, they freak out...its kinda funny
but yeah, i like my birthday to be known by my friends, but more of a family thing
4. I don't have parties anymore, but if I'm home I'll just have dinner with my family at a favorite restaurant.
This year, I'll be in NYC, so I can have dinner with my friends that live there, and I'm planning on treating them to Jersey Boys.
4.5 -- I want lots of attention and everyone to know. However, I don't want to have to tell anyone or ask for anything.

5. I want attention and people to know that it's my birthday.
I don't really need the gifts though...
