actually, the 100 insurgents # is not correct.
The U.S. military claims to have killed 1,200 ”insurgents” in Fallujah. Abdel Khader Janabi, a resistance leader from the city has said that only about 100 among them were fighters.
”Both of them are lying,” the Red Cross official said. ”While they agree on the 1,200 number, they are both lying about the number of dead fighters.”

inthemoney, they have been discussed, see the fallujah pottery barn thread and the impeach bush thread. both contain talk about the video.
as far as i'm concerned he did the right thing. the day before members of that same company were killed when attempting to minister to a fallen murderer who was booby trapped. the soldier in question was wounded in that same incident. probaably should have pulled him from the field at that point, but i'll take a dead terrorist over a dead marine any day.

I was expecting to see slightly more outrage, Papa - it did surprise me to come on here & not see a thread dedicated to the video.
I saw the video(s?), btw. Didn't look to me like they were at all concerned. Heard the talking - no discussion of the possibility of booby-trapped insurgents. Pretty much one bloke taking the law into his own hands from what I saw. In both cases.
And, btw, it is illegal according to the Rules of War (they're very strict on treatment of POWs, dontcha know). Still think he was right? Can we demand that people live by the rules we set them when we break those very rules because they don't suit us?

Papa, if we sink to their level then we have no right to call ourselves "liberators". We have NO RIGHT to control their country if we are going to allow ourselves to commit such atrocities because "they do!"
How old are you exactly? Beause attitudes like that belong to CHILDREN - not so-called liberators occupying a country claiming they are going to lead it to a better future.

Posted: 11/17/04 at 8:33amshooting a wounded man when the day before just such a situation resulted in the death of marines is not an atrocity, it's a preventative measure. cutting off heads is an atrocity, i think we've managed to avoid that one. taking hostages and butchering them on video is an atrocity, again, think we managed to avoid that one. i find it childish and counter productive to compare the actions of the united states marine corps with the barbaric butchers of fallujah. hence i will at this point invoke the rubber/glue clause and forward this isue to kofi annan along with a bribe laarge enough to make him see things my way, just like it always does.
