re: How was your first time driving?

It was very easy for me - but then again, I didn't learn to drive until I was 21!!! The instructor took us on some back roads to drive, and they were very twisty and curvy, but very little traffic, so it was pretty easy to learn driving. Only had 4 lessons, took the written test (passed first time) and then the road test - all within about a month's time. And I had never gotten behind the wheel before, nor did I practice between lessons. It just seemed the easiest thing in the world to do. 25 years later, and I'm still a demon on the road, er, a model driver. re: How was your first time driving?

I hate hate HATE Driving!! Cars are evil. I will never drive again. When I was 16, I totaled my brand-new white Saturn, and I have never gotten behind the wheel since. I have no plans to own a car ever again, which is why NYC suits me so well!

My first time driinv was horrendous. I was all like "I'm going to stop turning halfway through the turn!" and went into a cornfield.

Luckily I've improved, because now I'm the bitch on the road who's all "GO THE F*CKING SPEED LIMIT!" and passing you.

the only part I remember is back in the Dark Ages, when my father taught me how to drive, I had an especially hard time putting the Model T in reverse

Driving story -

When my driver's ed teacher tried to teach me how to parallel park, he did a really bad job explaining and I was just doing horribly with the whole concept. So my dad takes me behind this warehouse by his office on a Saturday morning in the family station wagon to teach me to parallel park. He parks the car up against the cement wall of the building, drags over a huge wooden pallet and sets it several feet from the back bumper of the car, and then stands about a dozen feet from the driver's side of the front bumper. He tells me to get in the car, then tells me, "You're parallel parked between two BMWs. You don't want to hit either of them. Pull out, then pull back in." He just stands there, calm as can be. I was so scared I was going to hit him that I did a very careful and thorough job of pulling out and back in again. Hence, I learned to parallel park beautifully.

Still... that took a lot of courage for my dad. But being scared you'll run over your father increases your accuracy much more quickly than those flimsy orange cones.

re: How was your first time driving?

When you first start to drive, it's really scary when cars in the other lane pass you. I was horrible when I was first learning. My driving instructor was about to make me have an extra lesson before giving me my permit if I didn't show enough confidence.

mollyllom, you just ruined my day. I felt special, and now you've stomped on my heart. Over and over. Well, if that's really the law, then my mom has some pretty good parking jobs..:-p (Is that the law just where you live or everywhere?)

re: How was your first time driving?

I remember my first driving lesson with my Mother. We went out to the country, and I accidentally took a wrong turn (despite the posted warnings) onto the state prison grounds.

My mother freaked out...I freaked out because of her...and I ran the car into a shallow ditch next to an old house. Within seconds the place was swarming with undercover policemen.

We had unintentionally driven right into the the location of an expect drug drop!

Funny story now....but oh were we scared!
