How was your first time driving?

I just went driving for the first time today-and I think I did pretty well. I personally cannot wait to actually start driving by myself. How was your first time driving? Good? Bad? Funny?

It was simply horrid. I was like "HOLY CRAP I'M DRIVING!!" and scared out of my mind. Funny, in retrospect, though!

re: How was your first time driving?

haha. Oh no, som! I'm guessing I don't want to come across you on the road!

I used my left foot for the brake and my right foot for the gas. I actually didn't know you were only supposed to use one foot for both pedals. It was actually working for me, though. My instructor noticed after about an hour and flipped out.

For behavior or...you were just THAT bad at driving? There's a girl who is a junior at my school who has gotten into like..7 wrecks in the last year.

re: How was your first time driving?

First time I was on the Interstate, I tried changing lanes and while I was trying to see if I could get over, I forgot to keep my foot on the accelerator and ended up going 30 in a 65 zone in the middle of the road while my dad was screaming at me "SPEED UP!! SPEED UP!!"

re: How was your first time driving?

All right, as I recall. I don't remember ever having a real problem with it. The bad thing is, I was out sick the week we learned to drive a stick shift, and I still have no idea how to do that. In several decades (ouch!) of driving, I've only ever gotten one ticket, for making an illegal left turn; it was probably 20 years ago, and I was in an unfamiliar area. As soon as I turned the corner and the police car came after me, I thought, Ack!, there was a no left turn sign there! Luckily the officer was nice. And the great irony is, I now work not far from where I got that ticket - and it is now legal to left turn there. (LOL, and this is now a 'more info than anyone wanted' post.)

re: How was your first time driving?

Well, I dunno if this really counts for me, but for my 13th birthday, my dad taught me how to drive a little and he let me go up and down the driveway. Well I was a dork at 13 (still am, 13 was only a year ago) so the wohle time I'm thinking "I am the coolest kid on the BLOCK, I'm 13 and I'm driiiiiiiiiiiving!"

Driving by myself for the first time was a lot weirder than just driving... I felt all mature and independent. And then I got lost.

re: How was your first time driving?

I just got my permit last week. I'm going to take my first driving lesson next weekend. I've driven a few times before just in parking lots. I was annoyed because I felt like ok, i got it, Dad, but I had to keep doing the same basic things over and over again :) I was most amused when I parked better on my first time ever than my older sister ever has (she's been driving about 2.5 years)

re: How was your first time driving?

The first time I drove, I drove down my street after a concert and it went well untill I had to pull in my driveway and slow down to stop the car in front of the garage and I hit the brake to hard and my mom jerked foward and almost went through the windshiled and then I tried to inch a little bit more foward and hit the gas to hard and she went jerking back and then I slamed the break and she went flying foward once again... she hasn't let me drive since. re: How was your first time driving?

re: How was your first time driving?

I started off being an extremely uptight driver- I would freak out all the time. (Of course, NOW I barrel down the highway, radio blasting, whole nine yards.)

The worst story I have was when I was still in the permit stage. I was running late to school, and my mom asked me if I wanted to drive. Unfortunately our van had to be backed out of the driveway, and I'm HORRIBLE at that. So, I'm freaking out, inching along, when my mother snaps and tells me to get out of the driver's seat. In the minute of rage, I throw open the door and storm out.

I also forgot to put the car in PARK.

My mom managed, at least to stop it before it the shed, and then ended up turfing a good five yards of our lawn.

re: How was your first time driving?

my first time driving was in an empty parking lot. i got really good at driving straight, but then once you threw in breaking and turning, that is where it got difficult.

when i passed my drivers licence the first time my mom cried, and wouldnt let me drive by myself for another 3 months. i hate when i make her cry; i thought she would be proud!

re: How was your first time driving?

You guys know the movie "Mulholland Drive"? I've never seen it, but it's supposedly a movie about a car crash and such (the street can be majorly windy)...

Anyway, that was the first street I ever drove on. Headfirst into oncoming traffic...Did I mention it was rush hour?

See, when you get in the car, no one tells you which is the brake and which is the accelerator (blonde moment, perhaps, but really, would it have killed my instructor to say "This is the brake!")

So yeah, that would be my first experience behind the wheel.

re: How was your first time driving?

First time, I drove off the road. It was a skinny 1-lane road in the middle of a state park, though, so it didn't matter.

Worst driving experience was the first time I went to get my driver's license. I hit a FedEx truck in the parking lot of the DMV...right in in front of a police officer. And when I hit the truck, my front bumper got stuck in the truck's wheel well and they had to bring in a tow truck. At the time, I was mortified, but everyone kept telling me I'd look back at it and laugh, and now I find it completely hysterical.

re: How was your first time driving?

Legally? I was 14 and some odd days (yep, it's legal in Montana) and it went pretty well. But seriously, what kind of fool lawmakers put 14 year-olds behind the wheel?

Illegally? I was 8 and driving my family's van through a sheep field. (I'm just perpetuating the Montana stereotype now, aren't I?)The sheep didn't like it much. Actually, I'm not sure it's illegal since it's on a ranch, but since I wasn't actually driving a tractor or anything, I don't think the exception was meant to include me.

re: How was your first time driving?

My first driving lesson was in a field just after I got my learners permit.

The first time I went on a road, I got confused, as my dad told me, "You must never put your foot on the brake without your foot on the clutch," in my first lesson, as we had been going about 5 mph.

So I got scared going down this big hill, and instead of putting my foot on the brake, I did what my dad had told me to, and put it on the clutch.

I nearly crashed into an embankment...

Good times.

But after that I was fine...

re: How was your first time driving?

Our house had a long and windy driveway that curved around 100-ft pine trees. Add that my first car was a hand-me-down 1982 Buick LeSabre and it was quite an anxiety-ridden experience. I kept backing up over our mailbox. That car was like driving around in your living room. It didn't help that our cars for Driver's Ed were Camaros. Who on earth thought it was a good idea to teach teenagers to drive in Camaros??? And then to practice and take the test in a LeSabre? That experience alone was responsible for a couple years of therapy.

re: How was your first time driving?

i knocked down the driver's ed sign behind the car. no joke. it was really embarassing b/c it was the last class of the day so all the seniors were leaving. (it was already a huge joke that i was a junior in driver's ed b/c i'm so young). by the time i got back inside there were a whole bunch of people waiting in the atrium...when i walked in they applauded.

that was super embarassing. maybe that's why i hate driving so much.

I had to tell him, 'No, no, darling. Opening nights don't usually look like this.' re: How was your first time driving?

I got to drive home from the parking lot (about a block and half away from my house-one of the SCARIEST experiences of my life) and my parking job (on the street) was AMAZING. I don't mean to brag...but...it was pretty..AMAZING. haha, both tires were within 2 inches of the sidewalk.

bwayguy, I don't mean to make you feel old..er..but I haven't even gotten my permit yet. I'm planning on starting drivers Ed. in about a month or so. You used to live in Texas??
