I know many of you live in the NYC area, so I am sure you have read about the NYPD officer who was killed in the line of duty, Russel Timoshenko. Russel was a friend of mine, we took the NYPD test together and stayed in touch throughout the years. Since he has died I have just been in shock so to speak, but I was looking on the Internet and was amazed at all the love that was shown to him and his family through this dark time. Then I read this comment on YouTube:
"**** em', thats what they get. Thats for sticking broom sticks in peoples rectums. Thats for 41 shots in Dialou, thats for killing an unarmed man days before his wedding. karma is justice. "
I know it's just some idiot being an ass, but his quote really got under my skin...I mean, do people actually feel this way?!? I am dumbfounded and can't really think of what to say...

the same thing is happening in my town right now.
two kids that my brother and i knew were killed in a shooting last week.
someone from my old school made a group on facebook for their friends to share memories and photos and to talk about what happened.
we found another group on a news website where a kid from our town was trying to get the people on the website to stop talking trash about them.
someone replyed with something like "yo yo yo that piece of gangsta **** died like 'dat' beacuse he was like 'dat'. better dead than still running around the streets with his ghetto friends!"
it's maddening how someone who doesn't even know someone can say such awful things about them.

"I mean, do people actually feel this way?!?"
Yes they do. People don't understand the pressure that a police officer is under. They have to make split second decisions in highly stressful situations.
Also, there are some people that aren't able to manage their emotions regarding authority figures. Unfortunately, I've had to sit with people like this on jury duty. They think no matter what the police say they are lying.

I have to admit that I feel very conflicted when it comes to police. I understand that they deal with the worst element of society or when people are at their worst. I understand that, but I still feel that there is a shared "x" factor between police and criminals. Frankly I don't trust the police, even though in all my dealings with them, which have been very few, they have always behaved like protectors. As I write this I am discovering that I may have an unfounded prejudice against the men/women in blue.

Some cops are good, some cops are bad - generalizations get made. But it is something many PDs need to address because that sentiment seems to be rising - NY, LA, Chicago, Detroit, other cities all have been having high profile abuse incidents and that's not good.
Here in Detroit, the 40th anniversary of the riot (or uprising/rebellion as some call it) has been getting some attention - that incident started with a police action and it hasn't been forgotten, especially with the likes of Bush in office and the sense of oppression rising again.
If there isn't an easing of tension soon, any authority figure will end up unequivocally representing the Bushco establishment and feel its unpopularity.

Posted: 7/18/07 at 12:26amI understand that some people may hate cops, but does that mean they should celebrate when one is murdered for no reason at all? It just boggles the mind, I guess because I have so many close friends who are police officers (many in the NYPD) I am biased, but no matter how much I hate a person I would never celebrate his/her death.

The person that posted those comments is obviously an angry, ignorant person with a chip on their shoulder and a need for attention. A person that creates racial tension and hate. Someone that doesn't have all the facts yet makes a public spectacle of themselves. Was it Al Sharpton? Charles Barron?
I support the police 100%. Do cops always make the right decisions? Of course not. But,I have to respect the man or woman that puts on that uniform, knowing that they are a walking target, to protect our city. Those cowards that shot and killed Officer Timoshenko should be tried in federal court and get the death penalty without any appeals.
