I HATE algebra II...

Have I made myself clear? Uggh. I'm not passing, and that's not good for me. I hate this class. I have a 60% right now and I need a 70% to pass the class. YIKES. And finals are in about 2 weeks. There's no way I can raise my damn grade 10 points in 2 weeks. Hmm- stupid question, but do you need Alg II to graduate HS? Ahh I'm screwed.

Yeah, well...I hate math too and I'm more than likely failing but you don't see me making a thread over it, now do you?

Fact is: we all have to deal with it - as it is a necessary evil. End of story.

If you think Algebra 2 is bad, wait til you get to Calculus. I'm currently failing right now.

I actually liked Algebra 2, it was the only math class I've taken since 8th grade that I've gotten an A in

I had a terrible Algebra II teacher (kept me out of Math Honor Society). She did not teach anything, and expected us to know it.

Good thing my PreCalculus teacher went over how to do everything.

Make sure you get some help if possible, most of PreCalculus and Calculus is Algebra.

There is a dramatic difference between Arithmetic and Mathematics.

I would describe Arithmetic to include Algebra and Geometry. These are things that you conceivably might use in life without being a mathemetician or scienctist. One plus one equals two always, and there is always a definite answer.

Mathematics on the other hand is when one plus one equals 3.2, but only when you are in the northern hemisphere and own a foreign built car.

Arithmetic is not a concept and mathematics is conceptual.

Math as so defined is pretty useless unless you are going to use it in work. Your Math faculty will disagree, but I would concentrate on learning how to keep a checkbook than how to do calc or trig.

If you plan on designing scenery however, you may want to think about math. You might need parts of it.

Algebra II is a walk in the park compared to Pre-Calc/Trig. I had to take that class twice.

That is exactly what I have been saying since ninth grade! I'm never going to have to prove that AC is congruent to JD and that arc KL is 90 degrees. (not alegbra but what I'm learning in math now) Teach me how to do my future taxes!

About a thousand years ago when I was a senior in high school located in Boondocks, Pennsylvania, (which is near Barftown but I digress) I had a choice between trig and something called "consumer's math".

I took consumer's math and never ever regretted it. We reviewed the basic arithmetic functions and went on to overviews of the stock market, banking and interest, checking accounts, insurance and taxes. It is by far the most useful course I ever took in high school or college.

Beats the hell out of trig. You will need geometry and a bit of algebra but not much else unless that is your field.

I would also scan the business section of the paper and read Variety for more real math ed.

While a calculator is a godsend, learn to do figures by hand. You may get stuck out on the road with only your head and some paper.

THANK YOU for starting this rant board...I despise Geometry with a freaking passion!!! I have such a terrible grade right now, I hate myself for bringing my grade down. At least finals arent until mid-January, so I've got some time I guess.

Oh god, I would love to be in Geometry right now, that's the only math I've ever done well in. I'm in Trig/Pre-Calculus right now for the SECOND year in the row, because I flat-out do not understand it and of course I get stuck with the worst teachers. My last one was never there (he would say he'd "be back in a minute" and then never come back) and the one I have now never explains anything, we're just supposed to know, somehow, what she's doing on the board.

I'm currently taking Algebra I. I hate it, and I think I've got the lowest grade in the class. Next semester I'm supposed to have Geometry, which I think I'm going to suck at too.

It seems like no matter how long or how hard I study, I don't get any of it.
